On the doorstep of North Berwick's West Links and, around the corner, walk to the nearby West Putting Green signaled by a statue of the famous Ben Sayers. Just a stone's throw from Westgate Gallery with its Orangery restaurant and cafe, it's again a short walk to North Berwick Railway station. As the main bus stop at Abbey Church is also approx. 200 yards away, the apartment is ideal for Edinburgh and all travel destinations.

North Berwick has become a favourite of Winter Golfers from around Europe & The US. The West Links is a great location for golfers from Sweden, Norway and Germany in particular, because of the easy transport network by plane or ferry.

The Lothians region

This part of the region is the sunniest and the driest area of Scotland, and the mild climate in this sheltered corner of the country makes it a popular year-round holiday destination.

The coastline is punctuated with places of interest, including castles at Tantallon and Dirleton dating back to the 13th century. The area's many other attractions include beaches, historic homes and ancient monuments, good walking and cycling routes, and the best collection of golf courses to be found anywhere.

North Berwick (historically the Biarritz of the North) remains an evolving and popular area for golfers, beach and sea lovers and visitors to Edinburgh. This apartment benefits from being in a simply superb central location.

For those who like exploring our past, the Iron Age sites at Chester's Hill Fort and Traprain Law are worth a visit, and the county's interior is dotted with delightful villages where you can stop for refreshment at the many pubs and coffee shops.

The Bass Rock, 2 km offshore, is home to one of the world's largest gannet colonies and dominates the sea view from North Berwick, whilst Aberlady Bay (the UK's first local nature reserve) hosts thousands of migrating birds each autumn.

Edinburgh is just half an hour away by train. Scotland's capital city offers many attractions, but is at it's busiest for three weeks every August during the Edinburgh International Festival.

Macdonalds Marine Hotel, a popular place for weddings is a mere 10 minute walk away.

North Berwick

The North Berwick area

North Berwick is a thriving coastal town with a long and colourful history. The growth of the 'Royal Burgh' is closely linked to the establishment of the railway line in the late 19th century, a time when North Berwick was a fashionable destination for the well to do in society, and became known as the 'Biarritz of the north'.

These days the town is home to a population of around 7,000 and is one of six main towns in East Lothian. Local infrastructure includes a high school, sports centre and swimming pool, health centre, shops, banks, pubs, restaurants, etc. There are golf, rugby, sailing and tennis clubs, and many other tourist attractions. Excellent transport links mean Edinburgh is easily accessible by road or rail.

Local attractions include Tantallon and Dirleton Castles, the Museum of Flight, Glenkinchie Disitillery, and the Scottish Seabird Centre. Boat trips to the Bass Rock and other islands are available from the old harbour in summer months.

At the heart of Edinburgh's golf coast, North Berwick is home to the West Links, the oldest piece of golfing land outside St Andrews and one of the finest courses to be found anywhere. Muirfield, Gullane, Dunbar, and the new courses at Archerfield and Renaissance are all just a short drive away.

For those who simply want to relax and unwind, there are miles of beautiful sandy beaches, good places to walk or cycle, and friendly pubs and restaurants.

"Love it!"

This was our second visit to this lovely apartment and hopefully won't be our last.Having spent time here during the winter, it was lovely to be able to make use of the garden this time, which is a real sun trap. We were again warmly welcomed by Gordon, and again, found the apartment to be clean, comfortable and perfectly suited to our needs. The owners have thought of everything, and are one hundred percent committed to making sure that their guests enjoy their stay. We loved playing golf, walking on the beach,sampling a few restaurants,(some of which are dog friendly, which is handy if you need this!). The apartment is just minutes away from all of these, and we were lucky enough to enjoy some stunning sunsets during evening dog walks on the beach. Definitely hope to return!

We are extremely grateful to these returning guests for their very kind review.

They highlight not only the unique location and comfort of the apartment, but the fact that they could benefit from the rear courtyard garden, which is private and indeed a south facing sun trap.

"Perfect place to enjoy the Edinburgh area"

The Marine Lodge is better in person than the descriptions or photos can tell! It has charm and comfort all it's own. First of all Andrew is the most delightful and accommodating owner. He went beyond all our expectations with his help, advice and thoughtfulness. Second, the location in town and being in North Berwick couldn't be better. We were in a quiet coastal town - easy walking distance to several great restaurants, pubs and shops. We were a quick train ride (25 minutes) into Edinburgh, near many golf courses, on the beach and near castles, a bird sanctuary and more! Third the Marine Lodge is very comfortable with clean and cosy beds, updated bathrooms, a well-equipped kitchen and wonderful sitting room with a fireplace. It felt like home to us - everything was well-kept and Andrew has thought of every little thing from cookies and wine to heated bath floors! We wanted to stay longer and plan on coming back soon!

We are so grateful to these guests from Texas. They kindly refer to the great back up service which we afford to all our guests.
They love the apartment, its design and space and comfort saying it is ideal for the coast and for Edinburgh.
Always lovely to hear that yet again these guests plan to return to the apartment from Texas for golf, Edinburgh and North Berwick itself.

Delighted with these comments from this family who came in December.
So pleased that they give mention to the comfort and decor and particularly refer to the fire and the Wet Room and of course the recently added Beaumont Tartan Axminster carpet whioh is indeed soo comfortable underfoot.
We are also extremely pleased that they recognise the attention to detail and comfort we try to maintain and that now that they have found the apartment at Marine Lodge they wish top return.
Gordon adds a special "Scottish welcome" dimension and is always on hand for great local support. Meeting him on arrival we believe strikes a note with all our guests and he ensures that no matter how long your journey takes to arrive you immediately fell "at home".
North Berwick is a great place where yopu can enjoy the quaintness of this historic Scottish town and choose to do both the simple and natural things as well as the finer things of ilfe.
We will be more than pleased to welcome this family again.

"Lovely accommodation and area; would recommend it to others"

We really enjoyed our week and we think the apartment is very special - lovely high ceilings, original features, decor, really comfortable beds and sofas and lovely fire place - appreciated the log burner which heated up the place really well. There were good cooking utensils, crockery, tea and coffee provided, and coffee making machine. It was great to be greeted at the property and shown where everything is as well as given tips on places to go. The accommodation is centrally located with a view over the firth of forth and close to all local amenities. North Berwick is a lovely area with lots of good places to eat and drink. Would definitely recommend to others.

We are very grateful for this review from this lovely family.

They make reference to all the facilities and key inventory - including crockery and utensils. So guests can choose to stay in or eat out.

The real fire is certainly a benefit to all as it provides the cosy atmosphere we wanted to ensure this beautifully traditional cottish apartment could offer.

"A great place in a great place"

I have been coming to North Berwick for golf four to six weeks a year for seven years. I have stayed in most of the hotels, large and small, a B and B or two, and many self catered rentals in the same price range. This is the place I now come back to. In fact, I am hesitant to share this great place with others because it will make it harder for me to schedule. But the owners are so engaged, helpful and welcoming that it's the right thing to do.

Overall, the Marine Lodge (the name of the property) is perfectly located on the west end of the High Street. Go right out the front door to all the restaurants and businesses you may need. Go left to the train station (30 minutes to Waverly in Edinburgh close to the historical Royal Mile and in the other direction the shops and restaurants of Princes St and George Street), the Nether Abbey Pub and the famous West Links of North Berwick. The longest walk to any of these destinations in North Berwick10 minutes and the important train station is five.

The flat is large and open, with two comfortable bedrooms, two very functional bathrooms, a kitchen which has what you need to take care of yourself or even entertain, and a large sitting room with a view to Fife across the Firth of Forth. The beds are comfortable the wifi is really great, and the washer and dryer, dishwasher, espresso machine and ice maker are very nice to have. I haven't sampled the backyard because of bad luck with the weather the two times I have visited this year, but it looks comfortable as well with a table and chairs for outside dining in the summer.

This is a very nice place with lots of little conveniences, a great location and plenty of space, with a hugely helpful and cooperative owner as a bonus.

We are delighted to have received such a glowing review from these American guests.

We are pleased that they refer to the fact that this property will be the one they choose to return to, having visited so many other styles of accommodation over the years.
We will continue to re-invest in the apartment so that all the facilities and inventory remain as you expect in a holiday home.

So pleased that once again the great location is referred to.
