Home description

The converted barn is fully furnished and overlooks the large heated 29' pool and sun terrace. The property is very secluded and rural and yet is just 10 minutes from the numerous cafes, bars and restaurants in the nearby villages and city of Niort. It is very easy to reach by car, plane or train and is set in the unspoilt region of the Deux Sevres. We are only an hour away from the famous La Rochelle and its fabulous harbour and restaurants and 30 minutes from The Marais Poitevin "Green Venice" with its many canals.

Nearby there are many facilities including golf, ice skating, cinemas, shopping malls, boating, karting, fishing and horse riding. Just on our doorstep there are plenty of green lanes for taking long walks to enjoy the beautiful countryside and to see the numerous wild birds, butterflies and other wildlife.

The Poitou-Charentes / Vendee / Deux Sevres region

The Deux Sevres region is situated in the south west of France, famous for its micro climate and unspoilt countryside where driving/riding is actually a pleasure. There are many places to visit of historical interest and we are very centrally located to places like Cognac, Bordeaux, La Rochelle,Tours, Royan and Futurescope. We are also near to The Marais Poitevin or "Green Venice" where you can go cycling or walk along the many canals. You can also go boating either rowing yourself or you can pay somebody else to do the hard work for you. There are also lots of cafes, restaurants and souvenir shops in the villages.

Niort / Aigonnay area

Aigonnay is rurally situated just outside the suburbs of Niort giving you the best of both worlds.
There is an ice skating rink just 25 minutes away from us and is very reasonably priced. Also in the summer months there are lots of Brocantes and Farmers Fayres in neighbouring villages where you can buy anything ranging from fruit/vegetables to furniture and are always worth a visit.
Also closeby is the historical military town of St. Maixent with its barracks and museum, which also has weekly markets. The annual Children of the World Festival is also held here.

How to get there

By air just 40 minutes from Poitiers Airport or 55 minutes from La Rochelle Airport.
By car 7 hours from Calais, 5 hours from Bolougne and just 3.5 hours from St. Malo.
By train 2.5 hours from Paris to La Creche/Niort/St. Maxient which is 15 minutes drive from us.

There are two spacious bedrooms, one with a large double bed, two chest of drawers, hanging wardrobe, chair and bedside tables with lamps. Bedroom two has two large single beds, (another single bed available on request), chest of drawers, hanging wardrobe and chair.

Downstairs is the kitchen and dining area with table and chairs for 6 people and dresser for all utensils and crockery. There is a large comfy sofa bed and 3 seater sofa along with a french television and dvd player. There are both top and bottom stairgates. There is a washing machine and dryer on site.

The bathroom is situated on the ground floor and has a large shower, toilet and wash basin with mirror and electric wall socket. A Hairdryer is also provided.

Outside there is a private terrace for al fresco dining with a barbeque.

Further details outdoors:
Large 3.5 acre secluded, fenced grounds entered via electric gates. The swimming pool is a 12m x 6m in-ground heated to 29' pool, maintained daily and is 1 metre deep at the shallow end going down to 2 metres deep. It is fully fenced and accessed by two lockable gates. A pool alarm is available. The sun terrace is large and there are plenty of sun loungers and sun umbrellas to shield you from the hot afternoon sun.

There are bicycles on site, table tennis, table top football, boule and a very popular large trampoline. We also have swings for smaller children and a wooded area for exploring. There are two wooden picnic tables.

There is plenty of secure car parking and exterior security lights.

Further details

There is a 20% deposit on booking with the balance being paid 8 weeks prior to arrival. There is also a 100 euro per week refundable security deposit payable on arrival.

The gite is non-smoking and is supplied with all bed linen and towels for the bathroom which are changed every Saturday. Towels are not supplied for the pool.
