The Languedoc-Roussillon / Gard region

The area rubs shoulders with Provence, the National Park of the Camargue and the Cevenne mountains.
It has a dry climate and it is normally hot and sunny from April - October. Even in winter there is usually a blue sky.
We are surrounded by Roman and medieval towns - Nîmes, with its wonderful arena, is ten minutes away and the fabulous Pont du Gard is only 30 minutes away. The interesting towns of Arles, Uzes, Avignon can be reached within 60 minutes by car and there is reasonable public transport.
Events in 2012:
April/May - various village festivals to welcome the buds on the vines
May - Arles Feria (folklore, corridas, flamenco, processions, bull running)
May - Feria de Nimes for Pentecote (folklore, corridas, flamenco, processions, bull running)
June - various musical events in the villages (National Fete de la Musique)
July - Thursdays in Nimes - music for every taste in every square, every Thursday evening
August - Thursdays in Nimes - music for every taste in every square, every Thursday evening
September Feria de Nimes for the grape harvest (folklore, corridas, flamenco, processions, bull running)
October - Nimes Jazz Festival
There is are river beaches at the 'Pont du Gard' not far from the village. The sea beaches at Les Staintes Maries de la Mer, Grau du Roi, Carnon and La Grand Motte are between 40 minutes and an hour away by car.
The Nimes area
As we are on the edge of the Camargue and bull-running takes place in most villages between April and October. There are also processions and Provençal music. Each village fête runs over 3-4 days.
Are you a wine lover? Then visit a 'cave' and taste some of the many wines of the region which include Costieres de Nîmes and Côtes du Rhone.
If you're feeling lazy then take a picnic to a wild beach on the Camargue or hire a sun-lounger at Grau du Roi or La Grand Motte.
More energetic? Then you could try:
- Horse-riding across the Camargue
- Canoeing down the Gardon and under the Pont du Gard
- Birdwatching for pink flamingoes and other species in the Camargue
- Playing golf on one of 3 courses near Nîmes
- Playing tennis on one of the village's courts
- Cycling round the vineyards
- Walking on one of the many marked routes in the area.

We stayed here for nine nights and we found it very pleasant and comfortable. Apartment was clean and all rooms were well looked after. It certainly made you feel at home. One minor thing - more storage needed in the kitchen for all the food and wine! Otherwise, properly facilitated kitchen and bathroom. The lovely little back garden was a treat for morning and evening meals. Our hosts were very friendly and helpful in answering all of our questions about the accommodation and the region. They prepared a superb information display of all the surronding areas and towns (no need to bring any guidebook!). However to see Provence and Gard, you definitely need wheels and this is the perfect location for day trips to see all the sights of this beautiful part of the world. Response: Thank you for your review. We'll certainly look into obtaining a wine rack for guests! |
