Dating back to 1360, Chateau d’Alais was owned by the same family for centuries. A victim of religious confrontations in 1564, it suffered from a major fire and was completely renovated and extended in 1785, taking on a newly modernized air at that time.
The long run of family ownership came to a halt when the last Marquess died without descendants in 1901. Between then and now, the chateau has been a second home, converted into apartments and a chambre d’hôte, until the current owners, drawn by the region’s 300 days of sunshine a year, took over the building and brought it back to life. They have renovated the building, landscaped the gardens and breathed new life into the chateau, making it the appealing destination it is today.
