The Provence Alpes Cote d'Azur / Alpes-Maritimes region
The Cote D'Azur has a wonderful climate. Never too cold in the Winter and glorious in the Summer. You can more or less guarantee sunshine from mid-May through to October;
There are many places of interest here, galleries, historic monuments, theatres and all of the small towns and villages surrounding. Also the famous Promenade des Anglais which is like a theatre in itself. People stroll along in the sunshine watching the people on the beach, roller-bladers glide past and there are many street entertainers at intervals all along the Promenade to the Negresco.
Nice / Port of Nice area
There are many festivals in and surrounding Nice. There is the Carnival in February which goes on for two weeks, the Carnival de Citron in Menton, the Grand Prix and Tennis Championships in Monaco and the many Jazz Festivals all along the coast during the Summer months. In Nice, we have the Festival du Jazz which goes on for almost two weeks during July and where they have many big name entertainers.
There are also many markets to visit. In Nice there is the famous Marché au Fleurs in the Cours Saleya. From Tuesday to Sunday it sells fruit, vegetables and flowers and other heavenly delights and on Mondays it is transformed into an antiques market.
Another market definitely worth a visit is in Ventimille, just across the border in Italy. This is a huge market held every Friday. You can find almost anything there. Clothes, bags, shoes, things for the house. It takes almost a day to walk through it, once you have stopped of for lunch and, people enjoy haggling for the best price.
How to get there
Depending on where you are coming from there are many budget airlines including Easyjet and Ryanair. It is also possible to hire cars from the well known car companies such as Hertz or Budget at the airport, but in each area in Nice there are other small budget car hire companies where you can hire at a very good price.

Further details indoors: This apartment is very centrally situated, facing the Port and just 10 minutes walk to the Old Town and to Beaches in both directions. It is also ideally placed for transport. There is a bus stop in the Port going in the direction of Monaco, the train station is about 10 minutes walk, as is Gare Routiere, the bus station and so the apartment is ideally situated if you want to explore the the other towns in the Cote D'Azur.
In the Port you are surrounded by many fabulous cafés and restaurants with the beautiful view over the harbour. Just across the road from the apartment luxury yachts from all over the world are moored.
Further details outdoors: There is something for everyone here. If you just want to chill out and people watch, this is the perfect place. For the fashionistas there are the many small boutiques to discover in the Old Town and just a few minutes walk further there is ave Jean Medecin which is lined with fashion shops, boutiques and the famous Galerie Lafayette.
For the more sporty there are the many water sports to participate in along the Promenade, you can also hire bicycles, roller blades and other things on wheels that I do not even know the names of.
It is not necessary to have a car in Nice, as if you want to discover the other towns and villages along the Riviera, the transport is very good and the buses cost just 1€ to go anywhere along the coast.
