The Provence Alpes Cote d'Azur / Alpes-Maritimes region

The Côte d’Azur is one of the 26 regions of France. It lies between the mountains peaks of the Alps and the shimmering turquoise Mediterranean. It has developed into an elegant holiday destination for the rich and famous since the turn of the 20th century. To this day, it remains one of the most sort after destinations in France and is ideal for family and group holidays as well as romantic city breaks.
Nice is a major tourist centre and a leading resort on the French Riviera (Côte d'Azur). It is the historical capital city of the County of Nice (Comté de Nice). It is a city that stays alive and active all year round. There is plenty to see and do and something to suit all tastes.
With approximately 300 days of sunshine, it is renowned for its long hot summers and cooling sea breezes which help to maintain a pleasant temperature. Summers are hot, dry, and sunny. Rainfall is rare in this season, and a typical July month only records one or two days with measurable rainfall. Temperatures seldom go below 20°C, and frequently reach 30°C. Average annual maximum is about 35°C. The absolute maximum recorded temperature in Nice was 37.7°C on the 1st of August 2006.
Nice offers easy access by train or bus (The main train station (Gare de Nice Ville) in Nice France is a 10 minute walk up Avenue Jean Medecin from the beach and famous seaside promenade) allowing you to explore many other interesting towns along this famous coastline. Day trips to Monaco, Italy and other southerly cities in France is also feasible.
The Nice / Promenade des Anglais area
This Historical and Vibrant city offers so many amenities to all kinds of Holiday makers. Relax and soak up the sun on the 3km of beaches along the ‘Promenade des Anglais’, while wining and dining in the most luxurious restaurants as the sun sets. Enjoy the Old Town with its typical French market in the Cours Saleya and interesting shops selling all manner of local produce and Provençal gifts.
For those whose interests lie particularly in culture, explore the many museums and art galleries in town including the Matisse Museum, Chagall Museum and the renowned Museum of Contemporary Art (http://www.nice.worldweb.com/SightsAttractions/Museums/).
At night, Nice night-life begins to wind up with buzzing bars and nightclubs. Couples who wish to relax can enjoy the best live entertainment on the coast while also experiencing the tranquil setting of the sun.

My mother and I stayed at this apartment for a week from 8-15 September. We had an appalling stay there because the management company (and that is a total misnoma) obviously does not look after it. However, there is also a great deal of misrepresentation on Holiday Lettings about what one does, and indeed and more pertinently, does not get for ones money. This apartment is on the top (NOT third) floor of a very high apartment building. There are 72 stairs (my mother counted them) - six flights to be precise. The apartment is absolutely not suitable for people with limited mobility. My mother is eighty and pretty fit but the stairs were very difficult for her to manage. The apartment is not equipped with 'all mod cons' - there was precisely one saucepan, two frying pans and hardly any equipment at all. Not even a kettle - we had to make tea in the one saucepan. There is no oven - just a halogen hob with two cooking rings. I do not consider that to be equipped by any standards. There is no wifi available in this apartment - I was given an access code but, as I could not detect the internet connection, I could not use my android tablet. There is no separate bedroom as advertised. It's a mezzanine floor above the lounge - so it's a studio, not a one bedroom apartment. There is ONE shower room with a loo - not three bathrooms as advertised. The existing shower room is off the mezzanine bedroom - very difficult to access if you are sleeping on the couch downstairs as you have to go up yet another, perilous flight of metal steps to reach it. The shower room does not have a toilet roll holder, or a towel rail (again not equipped with any mod cons) and the shower cubicle was obviously leaking water into the door groves as it was full of stagnant water that stank. Worst of all, we had no air conditioning for a week. I tried to contact the so-called management company (and beware of the not so lovely Nathalie from that company. She is facetious and indolent and could not care less about the owner's guests - she was much more interested in telling my mother and I - after she arrived almost an hour late to give us the keys - about what a dreadful day she had had) but was completely ignored. The owner did contact me to say that something would be done on the Weds/Thurs but, as we were leaving, there was little point! What was incredibly frustrating was that there was an aircon engineer literally 50 metres from the apartment so I have no idea a) why this was not working in the first place and b) why nothing could be done sooner. We absolutely boiled for almost a week - particularly as warm air rises and the apartment was on the top floor. Incredibly uncomfortable - my poor mother has a dreadful heat rash as a result. We would never return to this apartment. It's basic in the extreme, lights don't work (and yes I did try to change the bulb), no hot water after three days. I could go on and on. If you take my advice you will find a better place to stay, preferably the Elysee Palace Hotel which may be much more expensive, but is inevitably more comfortable than this place. |
