The Provence Alpes Cote d'Azur / Alpes-Maritimes region
Upon arriving in Nice, one can easily plan a walking tour of the area and day trips to famous and exciting places like Monaco, Menton, Eze, Villefranche sur Mer, Cannes, Saint Paul de Vence and Grasse to say the least. You can be on the beach in the morning and in the mountains hiking or skiing by lunch time.
Of course there are other interesting places to visit like Le Bar sur Loup, a medieval village perched on top of a rock. A little larger, less frequented, and with less breathtaking views than Gourdon, but it's worth a stroll through its narrow alleys. Gourdon is opposite Le Bar sur Loup, higher up on the mountain, on an even steeper rock, that is visible from just about everywhere from Cannes to Nice. It's tiny, and nowadays consists of souvenir shops, perfume shops, and some restaurants, but even so, still worth a visit. Rousillon is one of nature's miracles. Red and yellow rocks appear in the middle of normal mountains. Be sure to take a roll of film when you visit these beautiful places!
Nice / Promenade des Anglais area
Nice, the capital of the Cote d'Azur, is a city full of sports and cultural activities all year round like the marathon in January, Carnival in February, Triathlon in June, Jazz and Classical Festivals, concerts and famous museums to visit like Matisse, Picasso and Chagall. You can also attend the Cannes Film Festival, Monaco Grand Prix, the Lemon and Orange Festival in Menton while vacationing in Nice.
One can also enjoy a leisurely walk to the famous Flower Market where fresh flowers, vegetables, fish and Provençal specialities are sold every day except on Mondays when it becomes an antiquities market. Visiting Old Nice is always a treat-finding old churches, quaint streets full of interesting stores, food stalls and ice cream. You can also go up the rock for a nice view over Nice, its harbour, and the coast in general. .
