The Provence Alpes Cote d'Azur / Alpes-Maritimes region
The locals complain about the weather when there's a fluffy, white cloud in the sky, such is the abundance of endless-blue-sky days all year round and at any time of year, it's fantastic to stroll along the promenade or sit awhile at a café and indulge in some people watching.
As well as so much to do and see in Nice itself, Monaco is only a stone's throw away by bus, train or boat. Likewise Cannes, Eze, St Tropez etc. Or if you fancy grabbing a bargain and have exhausted the numerous markets of Nice, even pop over to Ventimiglia in Italy for the morning.
Those into action sports, will find plenty to whet their appetite, with numerous watersports available along the coast. If you like it colder, ski resorts Isola 2000 and Auron are easily accessed by bus (only €1!) or car and mean you can have a ski and beach holiday all in one!
The Nice / Vieux Nice area
Starting with Vieux Nice, head down to the Cours Saleya and mouch around the ever changing markets (fruit, veg, flowers, bread, antiques, knick knacks etc). Have a cappuccino in the morning sun at one the many marketside cafés and then wander around the little streets browsing the many art galleries, boutique clothes' shops and épiceries.
Walk down the Promenade des Anglais and have lunch at one of the beach restaurants, gazing out across the Mediterranean, then walk back through town to the newly redeveloped Place Massena, where there's always something going on.
You could probably eat out in a different restaurant each night for a year such is the choice available in Nice. A couple of local highlights include Acchiardo's just moments from the flat; a Nicoise family restaurant of 3 generations. Or try the hospitality of Jean-Francois at Romarin just off Place Rosetti. In reality though, we've never had a bad meal in any restaurant, so try something new and let us know how it was!
After dinner, choose one (or two or three!) scoops of ice cream of the hundreds of varieties available at Fenoccios (also in Place Rosetti) and take a stroll down to the sea, around the headland and browse the super yachts moored in the harbour.

This very clean upgraded modern studio is perfect for a couple who would like to spend a special time away, an anniversary or time out. Many good restaurants, boulongeries and cafes so close. The Sunday market of antiques is wonderful, as it the general market during the week and the sea only minutes away. The studio is situated in a traditional French old street which contrast to upmarket studio on the first floor which is very cute and special. Small kitchen so why not eat out - lots of info provided on restaurants |

A small but perfectly formed studio in a fantastic location in the Old Town. We had a great week there and will definitely stay there again if we are in the area. The apartment is really well presented and has information on places to eat and visit nearby - one of the best restaurants we found was only round the corner from the appartment. There is a TV, DVD player which also plays cd's and an iPod doc. There is a selection of dvd's, cd's and books. The kitchen is compact, but has everything we needed and all you need when you are so close to so many good restaurants! Overall a fab little place and would definitely recommend! |

The small, but compact property is located ideally for Nice Old Town, with good access to the castle above. Due to its position within a large building, it has no view. Across the road is a dance school of some kind, which meant it was quiet for most of the time. However, the road outside the property got very noisy when children were waiting to enter early in the morning. It was also noisy late at night, as youths would gather at the end of the road (not at all threatening - just loud!) The accommodation had all that we needed and included a welcome pack of food - a lovely addition. There is no TV, but the owner has left DVDs which visitors are welcome to use. There is also an i-pod dock - shame we didn't have an i-pod (no use with our mp3 player!) |
