The Provence Alpes Cote d'Azur region
Located in Southern Europe at the south eastern corner of France, Nice nestles between the Alps, Provence, Corsica and Italy. This privileged city stands on an exceptional natural site at the heart of the French Riviera. It stretches over a coastal plain southward onto the Mediterranean, and it is bordered from East to West by a succession of wooded hills. In the background are the Alpine foothills, some of which reach over 9000 ft above sea level. These are only 31 miles away from the coast as the crow flies.
To the west, Cannes is just 25 minutes away on the train, and just an hour from St Tropez. To the East, Monte Carlo is a 25 minute train journey away. It is only around 65 minutes to the Val D'Isere ski resort on the Italian border.

"Classy, well-appointed apartment. Recommended."
This is a family-owned apartment, clearly still used by the owners as well as being let, so is furnished to a standard that the owner requires for his/her own stays rather than to the minimum at minimum cost that one sometimes finds.
In general the actual look and feel of the place was a little better even than the photos, which was nice. It is spacious, the bathroom being especially modern, clean and classy. Decor and furniture were appealing; the kitchen very small but with a surprising array of kit for the space! The main room is very light, and the electronic blinds a brilliant investment. In average summer temperatures in the mid-20s we hardly needed the air-con, day or night.
The apartment block is nicely quiet, with friendly neighbours, who we met frequently as they implored us to shut the lift doors so as to keep the lift working. The location may be excellent or OK depending on how much time you want to spend on the beach. We've now stayed in Nice the last few years in or on the fringe of the Old Town, and Rue Fricero leaves you dependent on a bus to get you to the centre without a long walk , but a) we knew that, b) bus stops are within easy walking distance, and c) you have the choice of several buses. On the other hand, you are only 300 metres or so from the Promenade making it ideal for beach bums which we were for our last few days.
Keys were left at the airport for us which was a good way of operating. I would urge only one word of caution going by our experience. While this doesn't reflect on the owners necessarily I have to say that like most people I guess, we drew up a short list of properties to compare, price being an important consideration. This looked marginally the best option for us, and I checked availability. Only when I was ready to make a booking
did I find that added to the weekly fee quoted on the web site would be a fee of E140 "for your end-of-stay cleaning and professionally laundered linens and towels", this in addition to E2.50 per day per guest "for tourist city tax and local administration charges" - only E60 in total but as I later found out, significantly more than other agents are charging - E.70 to E1.30. I took umbrage at the E140 as I'm sure most people would be making decisions as I did with the prices available to them online only to find that there was an extra 15% or so to add on. I haven't come across such a charge before in Nice; last year there was a small deposit for possible damage but nothing else.
I won't let this affect my review of the property but it left a really bad taste in my mouth. Also I must mention that previously with another Nice agency I could use Paypal with no extra costs, but this agent doesn't accept Paypal, and I ended up with my UK bank charging me 2.5% for the agent to take the money from my account.
