The Provence Alpes Cote d'Azur region

Nice is a warm, vibrant and fascinating city with everything to offer the visitor with its beaches, restaurants, art galleries, night life and museums. Vieux Nice (old town) is so charming with lots of pretty cobbled streets lined with shops, bakeries, restaurants concocting delicious smells. If you have time and can pull yourself away from the charm of Nice, then I definitely recommend that you explore a few of the areas outside of Nice. The coastline is incredibly beautiful and the hilltop villages are a must most having incredible viewpoints.

Trips inland could include St Paul de Vence, Grasse and the many enchanting hill top villages and are easily accessible by car, train or bus. Don't forget to take your camera and arrange and stay for lunch for a very enjoyable day trip.

Trams and buses are closeby, and for 1.50 Euro you can travel to medieval hilltop villages (villages perches), such as St Paul de Vence and Eze, or visit Antibes, Cannes, Monaco. By train you can quickly be in Italy. Ferries from nearby Nice Port take you along the Mediterranean coast to St Tropez or across to Corsica.

If you haven't been to Nice before then you are in for a treat. Nice is a small vibrant city with an old town and new town. It oozes charm and is incredible picturesque with it's pretty coloured buildings, monuments, the beautiful azure coastline so bring your camera. Nice really does have everything to offer and I guess that's why tourists keep returning.

On your doorstep literally just a few minutes walk from the apartment it the very scenic Port area and plenty of restaurants and cafes to choose from. For those of you who like keeping fit there is an english speaking fitness studio 'Fithub' just one minute away - with a large selection of drop in classes from Pilates, yoga and cardio. The staff are very friendly and will give you a warm welcome.

Wander around the port viewing the impressive yachts and the charming and colourful fishermen boats. it is also one of the up and coming areas in Nice. Trendy eateries are popping up off the side streets - rue Bonaparte just off Place Garibaldi being one of the most trendy of these to dine and socialize. There are a few small shops just one minute away with a larger supermarket just a five minute walk away. Place Garibaldi and the old town are also only five minute walk away, as is the tram so Nice is literally at your fingertips.

A scroll through the newly opened 'Promenade du Paillon' is a must. It is a beautiful urban walkway 1.2 in length and starts just off Place Garibaldi, passing through Place Massena and stretches right down to the promenade and sea. Enjoy the water mirror pavements, water jets, pretty vegetation and a childrens park. For other walks, take advantage of the beautiful coastal walks from Boulevard Franck Pilatte to Villefranche - it is a must. Or in the opposite direction you can take the pedestrian footpath - The Promenade, which takes you all the way to the airport and beyond. On the way you will pass the many pebbled beaches and you can turn off and wander the narrow enchanting streets of Vieux Nice (old Town). Here you can find the famous Cours Saleya flower market, it also offers fresh produce and local favourites such as fruit, vegetable, cheese, olives, soaps, and flowers from early morning until midday. The wide sweep of the Baie des Anges is visible through the arches of the old town walls. The cobbled streets of Vieux Nice (old town) are alive with bustling restaurants, cafes, museums which are free, art galleries, theatres, jazz bars, magnificent baroque churches and little shops selling delicious Nicoise specialities and artisan wares. Enjoy the many pretty plazas - Place Rossetti where you can treat yourself to one of the best Ice Creams at 'Fenocchio's', Place Francois for the daily fish market and the spacious Place Garibaldi which is just a stones throw from the apartment, is lined with a choice of bars and eateries.

For a great way to see an overview of Nice, take the steps or lift up to the Colline du Chateau which sits on top of a hill between the Port and the Old Town and offers stunning panoramic views. Bring your camera as is a very popular vantage point for photographing the stunning Baie des Anges. There are only the ruins of the Chateau remaining at the top, but you can also find a lovely park area with a choice of two cafes. If you prefer to avoid the steps up then you can also take the little white tourist train from the Promenade, or you can walk, cycle or use the lift.
