The Provence Alpes Cote d'Azur / Alpes-Maritimes region
The region offers something for everyone. From the sea and watersports to the mountain ski resorts. The warm climate makes this area a great holidays destination year round. On the coast the train services make it easy to travel between Cannes and Monaco or further afield. Take a boat trip from Nice or to the islands off Cannes.
The ski stations of Isola 2000 and Auron are easily accessible or take the 'Chemin de Fer '( old 'iron railway') from Nice to Digne travelling into the mountains past medieval villages and beautiful scenery. Cycling, canyoning, fishing, mountain biking and para-gliding are all on offer throughout the region. Visit the amazing Gorges of Verdun or the beautiful fragrant lavender fields. Grasse is the perfume capital of Europe and you can see at first hand how perfume is made and buy hand made products.
For children, Marineland in Antibes is worth a visit - there are dolphin and whale shows as well as interesting exhibitions. There is also a zoo in St Jean Cap Ferrat and a small zoo in Fontvielle, Monaco.
Windsurfers and pedallos are available for hire at Lac St Casien only 30 minutes from Nice just minutes off the A8 motorway.
Nice / Port of Nice area

December and January you can visit the Christmas/winter village in central Nice offering ice skating or spectacular views from the 'big wheel' as well as souveneirs and local produce.
