"Homely cosy studio apartment in Nice West"
I booked the studio apartment via Holiday Lettings which I hadn't used previously but found everything quite simple. Claudine's directions to the house were perfect - a few minutes on the bus from the airport and we were almost there!
Claudine greeted us with the keys and showed us up to the apartment which was exactly as on the pictures - homely and cosy! The ladder up to bed deck was quite steep but just something to get used to! Claudine had provided bus timetables and maps which were really useful. She also told us where the supermarkets were (about 10 mins walk max).
We booked this studio without realising exactly how far away from Nice centre it was. However it wasn't a problem once we got the hang of the buses although if you wanted to come back to the apartment after having a late night you would not be in luck as the last buses seemed to be around 8pm. We did walk back a couple of times which was quite nice in the evenings when it was cooler - still a long way though! If you want to a get a taxi back expect to pay around 30 euros plus.
The beach was a 10 min walk max and as its more of a locals area was quite quiet. You can just take a stroll and decide which beach you want to stop at. Nice and relaxing but beach shoes are recommended as the pebbles can be quite painful on your feet.
There isn't really anywhere to go out to drink / eat in the neighbourhood so you would need to venture into the centre of Nice for that.
We loved the apartment, after a long day it was nice to come home to! The little kitchen area was perfect for our needs and we sat out on the balcony a couple of times to enjoy a glass of wine. We did have a problem with the toilet but Claudine and her husband ensured it was fixed straight away and we couldn't fault the service.
In short, the apartment and the house itself were great! Claudine and her husband are doing a lot of work to restore this property to its former glory and you can tell how much love and care is going into this project. The only niggle was that we couldn't pick up the house and move it closer to the centre of Nice!
The only thing I would correct is that there are some buses lines on the night (till 1-2 h am). You can also use the Vélobleu to reach the city center or come back home, even on the night by the Promenade des Anglais in front of the sea, there's a cycle path. In 15 mn you are in the center, can drop your cycle and come back after you enjoyed!
