The Provence Alpes Cote d'Azur / Alpes-Maritimes region

Nice is a mixture of the old, new, trendy and traditional. On one side it’s framed by the mountains and on the other by the magnificent seafront which is over five miles long. Nice is the capital of the Cote d'Azur and its largest city.
Originally Nice was ruled by the Italians and even today there remains a strong Italian influence in the old town, in the narrow lanes and in the style of the buildings. People have been visiting Nice and the Cote d'Azur for over 150 years because of its warm climate and the quality of the light made it attractive to artists. In the 1930s the rich and famous came to socialise, to swim in the warm Mediterranean sea and to sunbathe. There is definitely a feeling of opulence and style as you stroll past the two casinos and the many luxury hotels on the Promenade des Anglais.
The Nice / Promenade des Anglais area
Why should you come? Nice is a fabulous place with something to meet just about all needs. I love it because (in no particular order):
• It has a mild winter climate and is warm in summer
• The uniqueness of the promenade des Anglais, a place bustling with people enjoying themselves and simply relaxing. View the beautiful crystal clear water and the private and public beaches are all close by, relax under a beach umbrella, rent a chaise lounge and enjoy a cocktail or lunch at one of the many beachside restaurants.
• The lifestyle - a relaxed, Mediterranean pace of life.
• The people who are genuinely helpful and friendly
• The things to do - excellent restaurants, stylish shopping, cool entertainment of all kinds
• Sun, sea and the mountain backdrop
• Sunset over the Baie des Anges, the bay which Nice overlooks
• Museums and art galleries
• The city is compact and its easy to get around by public transport
• The rest of the Cote d'Azur is within easy reach
• There are regular events throughout the year in Nice and the rest of the Cote d'Azur. Nice holds an annual Carnival and Flower Festival in February, Feast of the Gourds in April, International Tennis Tournament in April, May Festival and Jazz Festival in July. Added to this are the Monte Carlo Rally in January and Cannes Film Festival and Monaco Grand Prix in May.
• In winter the ski slopes are just 90 minutes away
• Italy is just half an hour away by car or train
• For UK residents, it's easy to fly direct to Nice and the airport is just 5 miles from the city centre.

Guestbook for Chic seafront flat in Nice
We had a splendid holiday which we thoroughly enjoyed and thought one week too short. We found the spacious apartment very comfortable, airy and extremely well appointed with everything ready to hand. It is also well placed, conveniently close to a wide variety of shops, within easy reach of the sea, plenty of easy walking and ample open air seating. we are no longer young, all these factors combined to make our stay most successful. Given the weather in late September Nice tuned out to be a perfect place for us with direct flights from Gatwick.
We would very much like to return …..We would be prepared to book this whenever it suits you. Neil C October 2010

Dear Carole - we wanted to let you know that we had a smashing time in Nice at the Promenade des Anglais apartment. We loved everything about it - beautifully styled and furnished, and very well equipped (though have to admit that no cooking whatsoever took place during the week we were there). We kept finding ourselves drawn to the window - whatever time of day or night - to check up on the sea, the prom and palm trees. As usual, Nice was like a shot in the arm - we were up and running, so to speak, as soon as we saw the sea. One very rainy and one half-rainy day, but otherwise the weather was beautiful - clear skies, glittering sea, 70-75 degrees.
Lots of pluses about the Promenade des Anglais apartment, which I'm sure you've heard many times from your previous guests. We found the day-to-day practicalities so very easy. I was in the Marche de la Buffa shortly after 8.00 am getting the fruit, salads & cheese, after which I did a little wander round the various bread shops for the breakfast croissants (and the supper-time patisseries), finishing up with a fast walk along the prom. As I am not known for being a ray of sunshine in the morning, and certainly can't face the streets here until well after 9.15 am, I'm still not quite sure how this happened.
Transport, was brilliant, to go either direct to where we wanted, or to connect with the tram or bus to another place.
Thanks again. Best wishes,
Pamela & Ted

Many thanks for your prompt refund of deposit, which is much appreciated. We enjoyed our stay very much, with both the central location and quality of the accommodation contributing, along with the perfect weather, to a memorable week. Nice is an ideal centre for a non-car holiday, with good railway and bus services both along the coast and into the mountains, so it could not have gone better.
Wishing you a successful time with the new property
