Home description
If you are looking for a quality home from home rather than a holiday cell, then this apartment offers just that but with the additional bonus of being located in a quiet little street which is close to all shopping amenities, and transport links in and out of Nice. This is an apartment where you can look forward to returning after a hard day's sight-seeing. The street name "Alexis Mossa" has a history in the Carnival of Nice, where the person after whom the street was named was one of the creators of the current carnival which takes place annually over 2 weeks from mid to late February. If you seek sun from the rear South facing balcony, then it is quiet and tranquil; if you seek the cool shade, then transfer yourself and drinks to the North facing balcony. For those who wish to enjoy the cinema, there is an English theatre just 5 minutes away, which lies across the road from the Museum of Nice, just next to the world famous Negresco Hotel facing a blue, blue sea. In Nice, you have the mountains, the sea, nature, the city culture and the Old Town in its original 17th century condition with its narrow Italian streets, pretty church squares, flower market and views to die for from on top of the Old Chateau all within an unendingly interesting 20 minute walk from the apartment.

The Provence Alpes Cote d'Azur / Alpes-Maritimes region
Out of the 365 days in a year, Nice gets 300 days of sun. It is made up of: Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur is made up of : * the former French province of Provence * the former papal territory of Avignon, known as Comtat Venaissin * the former Sardinian-Piedmontese county of Nice, whose coastline is known in English as the French Riviera, and in French as the Côte d'Azur * the southeastern part of the former French province of Dauphiné, in the French Alps. It encompasses six departments in south-eastern France, bounded to the east by the Italian border, to the south by the Mediterranean Sea and by the principality of Monaco, to the north by Rhône-Alpes, and to the west by Languedoc-Roussillon, with the Rhône river marking its westernmost border. NICE: The first known human settlements in the Nice area date back approximately 2,000 years; the Terra Amata archeological site shows one of the earliest uses of fire and construction of houses. Nice (Nicaea) was probably founded around 350 BC by the Greeks of Massilia (Marseille), and was given the name of Νικαία ("Nikaia") in honour of a victory over the neighbouring Ligurians (Nike is the Greek goddess of victory). The city soon became one of the busiest trading ports on the Ligurian coast; but it had an important rival in the Roman town of Cemenelum, which continued to exist as a separate city until the time of the Lombard invasions. The ruins of Cemenelum are located in Cimiez, which is now a district in Nice. CLIMATE: Before referring to climate tables, one should be aware that the official Nice temperatures are recorded at the airport, which is a climatically different place than the rest of the town, being more vulnerable to marine air and winds from the Var valley. Airport temperatures are therefore different from town ones : daytime airport temperatures are slightly higher, while nighttime temperatures are significantly lower. For example, on the 24th of January 2007, a minimum of 0.9°C was recorded at the airport while the temperature didn't go below 6°C in the city itself. The following statistics and descriptions use official temperatures.
Nice has a Mediterranean climate : the city enjoys mild temperatures most of the year; rainfall is very moderate and mainly concentrated in the darkest part of the year (September to March).

PLACES OF INTEREST The Promenade des Anglais ("Walk of the English") is a celebrated promenade along the Mediterranean at Nice, France. Before Nice was urbanized, the coast at Nice was just bordered by a deserted band of beach covered by large pebbles. The first houses were located on higher ground well away from the sea.
Starting in the second half of the 18th century, the English took to spending the winter in Nice, enjoying the panorama along the coast. When a particularly harsh winter up north brought an influx of beggars to Nice, some of the rich Englishmen proposed a useful project for them: the construction of walkway (chemin de promenade) along the sea.
The city of Nice, intrigued by the prospect of a pleasant promenade, greatly increased the scope of the work. The Promenade was first called the Camin dei Anglès (the English Way) by the Niçois in their native dialect Nissart. After the annexation of Nice by France in 1860 it was rechristened La Promenade des Anglais, replacing the former Nissart name with its French translation.
The Hotel Negresco on the Promenade des Anglais on the Baie des Anges in Nice, France was named for Henri Negresco (1868-1920) who had the palatial hotel constructed in 1912. In keeping with the conventions of the times, when the Negresco first opened in 1913 its front opened on the side opposite the Mediterranean. *The Mediterranean sea. Amazingly quiet for such a centrally located flat and our family were glad to have English speaking agents on 24 hour call helped us out when we needed it. All was well in the end and I highly recommend your flat to any other families. Robert Casey.
