Hidden Gem

Nice old town is predominantly comprised of apartment blocks, so this cute orange house with blue shutters hidden amongst the apartment blocks on Rue de la Providence is very special indeed. When the owners first saw it they couldn't help but fall in love with it. They have just finished completely redecorating it in a light minimalist style with splashes of colour, but the old style French charm is still evident and very appealing. They are inviting guests to share their 'Secret House' for the very first time this season, and we are sure that you will love it as much as they do.

Location! Location! Location!

Even the location is special: Although situated in Vieux Nice just seconds away from the pulsing beat of the old town's narrow streets, Rue de la Providence is nevertheless a quieter area of the old town. The famous flower market, the fish market and the Cathedrale/Vieille Ville Tram stop are all just a few minutes' walk. The nearest beaches, 'Castel' and 'Opera' lie just across the “Promenade des Anglais”. So you can dip in and out of the hustle and bustle whenever you want. With the Castle above, and Place Garibaldi and the Port close by you are perfectly placed to enjoy all that Nice has to offer.

Summertime and the living is easy!

The property is arranged over three floors - on the top level (with automated skylight) you will find the open plan air-conditioned living area, with le Corbusier style 3-seater and 2-seater sofas; perfect for relaxing with family and friends. Reclaimed from old boats, a beautiful wooden table accompanied by four of six Charles Eames style colourful chairs dominates the informal dining area beside the kitchen, ideal for enjoying a French feast or just sitting around sharing a bottle of chilled Provencal Rose with loved ones. Floor-to-ceiling sliding doors lead out onto the balcony, which benefits from both a sunny side, with lemon and clementine bushes, perfect for savouring the beautiful views over the pretty rooftops of old Nice to the hills beyond, and a more shaded side, with breakfast table and chairs set amongst the lavenders.

The kitchen has plenty of storage space and is very appealing to the eye with chalk-white cupboards complimenting the pretty coloured worktop and wall tiles. It comes equipped with oven, 4 x hob, extractor fan, and large fridge/freezer. (The washing machine is located on the ground floor.)

In the corner of the room reclaimed wooden shelves house books, games, a router and Sonos sound system so guests can stream their favourite music and connect to Wi-Fi for email etc.

Stairs lead down to a large air-conditioned bedroom containing a luxury super-king sized bed for comfort, a double wardrobe, large TV and the en suite bathroom, with its large rectangular wash basin, equally large mirror, and heated towel rail. The generously proportioned bath comes complete with shower fitment. There is a separate WC located just outside on the landing.

Cool Courtyard

On the ground level you can find the second bedroom with patio doors leading out to a wood-decked courtyard with its own table, chairs and palm tree. Shaded from all but the midday sun this area is much cooler so it is perfect for relaxing during those hot Mediterranean summer days. This bedroom also enjoys a luxury super-king sized bed, and an even larger wardrobe with sliding mirrored doors. This room is so cool and shady that air conditioning is unnecessary. Its en suite wet room contains a walk in shower, washbasin with mirror above & vanity cupboard below, heated towel rail, toilet and washing machine.

The Secret

Across the courtyard an old heavy wooden door leads to a passageway with steps down through an adjacent apartment onto Rue de la Providence so this really is a secret house!

About this location

The French Riviera - Cote d'Azur region

The French Riviera or Cote D'Azur as also known is a magical place with so much diversity on offer. Apart from the glamour, champagne lifestyle, and sumptuous yachts - this is only skimming the surface. Where else can you have the extravagance in winter of skiing in the morning and walking by the sea in the afternoon? Explore the beautiful coastal landscapes dotted with small beaches, jagged rock formations and incredible sparkling azure mediterranean which can be seen by car, train, bus, cycling or even walking. If you can tear yourself away from the views then look inland and you will more than like see pretty hilltop villages perched high and proud. These sunkissed and historical hill towns are brimming with culture and history.

Take time to appreciate the magnificent architecture of the Belle Epoque, Bourgois and Art Deco buildings to the Italian influenced buildings of the older quarters - colourful buildings with their pretty colourful wooden shutters. Visit the Picasso museum in Antibes, shop till you drop in Cannes, take a boat to St. Tropez, visit the Palace in Monaco, walk the enchanting path around Cap Ferrat, enjoy Sunday brunch in Eze, make your own French perfume in Grasse, explore the many galleries of St. Paul de Vence, visit the vineyards of Bellet and feel at home in Nice. And if you really want to live like a local then playing petanque (type of bowls played mostly by the older/retired generation) and drink pastis (anise-flavoured liqueur and aperitif ).

Nice is a warm, vibrant and fascinating city with everything to offer the visitor with its beaches, restaurants, art galleries, night life and museums. Vieux Nice (old town) is so charming with lots of pretty cobbled streets lined with shops, bakeries, restaurants concocting delicious smells.

If you haven't been to Nice before then you are in for a treat. Nice is a small vibrant city with an old town and new town. It oozes charm and is incredible picturesque with it's pretty coloured buildings, monuments, azure coastline so bring your camera. Nice really does have everything to offer and I guess that's why tourists keep returning.

Nice has one of the most famous coastlines on the Cote d'Azur, the Baie des Angles. Surrounded by hills and mountains, Nice has a wonderful climate all year round. The main reason holiday makers choose to stay in this area is the proximity to the beach and Promenade but also the stunning views of the azure sea.

There is a superb selection of local shops, patisseries and small supermarkets nearby. It is just a few minutes walk to the Promenade des Anglais, and several private beaches where a sun bed and parasol can be hired on a daily basis - there are also public beaches if you just want to enjoy the beach for an hour or so without paying sun lounger fees.

Place de Massena is the main central square which lies between the old and the new town. The Old Town is a maze of narrow streets, squares, little restaurants and fascinating shops. Visits to the Antiques Market (Monday) and the weekday flower and vegetable markets are not to be missed. The Nice Carnival in February is spectacular, as is the summer Jazz festival with top acts. During summer Nice has always something special going on, don't be surprised if you see some fireworks as the Major of Nice likes nothing better than fireworks to celebrate and event.

This apartment is located in the New Town but is just 4 minutes walk into the old Town (Vieux Nice) where you will find the famous Cours Saleya flower market, also offering fresh produce and local favourites such as fruit, vegetable, cheese, olives, soaps, and flowers from early morning until midday. The wide sweep of the Baie des Anges is visible through the arches of the old town walls. The cobbled streets of Vieux Nice (old town) are alive with bustling restaurants, cafes, museums which are free, art galleries, theatres, jazz bars, magnificent baroque churches and little shops selling delicious Nicoise specialities and artisan wares. Just beyond the Cours Saleya you will find the famous Promenade des Anglais and the long stretch of beaches both private and public. Enjoy the many pretty plazas - Place Rossetti where you can treat yourself to one of the best Ice Creams at 'Fenocchio's', the spacious Place Garibaldi, lined with a choice of bars and eateries and Place Francois for the daily fish market

For a panoramic overview of Nice take the steps to the Colline du Chateau which sits on top of a hill between the Port and the Old Town and offers stunning views over the rooftops and Baie des Anges. Bring your camera as is a very popular vantage point for that postcard view. There are only the ruins of the Chateau remaining at the top, but you can also find a lovely park area with a choice of two cafes. If you prefer to avoid the steps up then you can also take the little white tourist train from the Promenade, or you can walk, cycle or use the lift.

Public transport is easy and reasonably priced. The No. 98 airport bus runs from the airport and along the Promenade des Anglais before turning towards Place Massena and along the Promenade du Paillon son to the Port. There is a good bus services to all the surrounding local towns hilltop villages or take the train if you prefer.

"Spacious modern apartment in a great location"

I travelled with my husband and 10 year old son and this apartment was in a perfect location for us. The airport bus 98 dropped us off about a 5 min walk to the apartment, we were met by Roni who helped us get settled in. The apartment is lovely and very well equipped with everything that we needed during our stay. Just a few minutes from all the lovely restaurants and supermarkets. The main shopping area is about a 10 minute walk through the amazing new park area where you can stop with kids to play in the water fountains or sit in the comfy big chairs to read a book in the shade. The beach is very handy too. There is a trolley in the apartment that we found really useful to take all our stuff to the beach. The bedrooms are big and airy with massive v comfy beds and having an ensuite in each was very handy. My only slight disappointment was that the balcony was quite small and only got the sun around 3pm for about an hour, however we did use it in the mornings for our breakfast. There are quite a lot of stairs to get to the apartment, this didnt bother us but other guests should be aware if they have mobility difficulties.
