The Provence Alpes Cote d'Azur / Alpes-Maritimes region
Nice is the fourth largest city in France but is one of the few large cities bordering the Sea. Its micro-climate is famous and attracted the English and Russian elite during the 18th and 19th centuries. Their influence can be seen in many areas of Nice, the Promenade des Anglais and the beautiful Cathedrale Russe as well as the Hotel Regina in Cimiez extended to house Queen Victoria's retinue in the winter months. Skiing and rambling in the surrounding mountains of the Haute-Alpes- de Provence are only an hour or two away and further east are the famous sea and ski resorts of Italy.
Nice / Vieux Nice area
There is so much to do in Nice all year round. There is the famous Carnival which starts in the middle of February with its floral floats and finale of fireworks on the beach when they burn the King of the Carnival each year. This is the second most popular Carnival in the world after Buenos Aires. The Old Town is full of history with its beautiful churches and palaces dating back to the 14th and 15th centuries. These come alive during the Festival and Fete Days and at Christmas, the Nativity Scene takes over Place Rossetti with its live goats, sheep and donkeys. In summer the Provencal bands and dancing fill the narrow streets and in September the fishing boats are decked with garlands and bouquets of flowers to give their thanks to their patron saint for their livelihood.
How to get there
Fly with one of the many low budget airlines to Nice Cote d'Azur airport and take the local bus to Vieux Nice.

Further details indoors: The studio, although small, is comfortably furnished with two easy chairs as well as a full sized double bed and bedside tables with lamps. The kitchen is spacious enough to be able to eat there at the bistro table with two chairs. The studio's five windows are all double glazed. The views from these windows are all varied. One window looks out over the Providence building and its attractive balconies, another over the adjacent Cultural Centre with its stained glass windows and ornate roof line and the third window looks out over typical Nicois rooftops and street scenes. The kitchen and bathroom windows look westerly towards Mont Boron and benefit from the late afternoon sunshine and evening sunsets.
Further details outdoors: The narrow staircase leads down into Rue St. Augustin and the studio is on the third floor without a lift. Rue St. Augustin is very close to the main square of Place St. Francois with its daily fresh fish market and which also leads into Rue Pairoliere with its dozens of little shops, famous for its butchers, cheese shop and fresh pasta shops.
Further details
There is an indoor swimming pool at Place St. Francois which is open all year round and the beach at Castel Plage is only about a 5-10 minute walk away.
