Home description
This apartment is described as feeling you are in the country but being in the heart of the city by people who have stayed here. It takes up the whole of the garden floor of a large villa just off Bvd Gambetta, and has the benefit of a large private garden (600sqm) to relax in away from the crowds and the neighbours. You have an independent front door with an alarm system if you wish to use it. There are cafes and restaurants nearby specialsing in plat du jour without the tourist prices you will find down at the seafront. We have bikes to loan to adult guests for cycling along the Promenade des Anglais into the Old Town or farther afield if you wish. Air conditioned buses (1 Euro, free for under 5s) will run you from Bvd Gambetta to the seafront in 5 mins (they run every 10 minutes). Buses also run to the airport, to the train station, into the Old Town, or to the Conference Centre, or the new tram line (1 Euro, free for under 5s) is 10 minutes walk away, and will take you in 5 minutes to the bus station, into the Old Town, near to the Port, or to the Conference Centre. All the food shops you could want are on Bvd Gambetta, supermarket, fishmonger, butchers, about 8 bakeries, green grocers (although we tend to shop at the market), chemists.
For children there is an open air swimming pool 2 mins away which is open in summer til 9 at night, and a children's playground on our back doorstep with slides for smaller children and a space for ball games for older children. Of course the beach is only 1km away as well.
The apartment consists of ; a large living area with fully equipped US kitchen (dishwasher, microwave, gas hob, electric oven, washing machine, dryer), dining area, a double Clic-Clac sofabed (goes up and down in one quick movement), an armchair, a TV/DVD with UK TV channels, free Wifi and a telephone; two bedrooms, one double with en suite shower room, one twin with en suite shower room, and a further mezzanine sleeping area with a double mattress; a separate WC. The living area and the twin bedroom open directly onto a large sunny terrace and garden, which is very peaceful. There are loungers and tables and chairs outside to enjoy relaxing in the sun or an alfresco breakfast or dinner. Fresh herbs are available in the garden. I can provide many extras for babies and children including cots, high chairs, toys, steriliser, bikes etc.
I offer discounts from 10% for a booking of 2 weeks in summer, up to a flat monthly rate of 1000 Euros per month for winter bookings of 5 months or more.

The Provence Alpes Cote d'Azur / Alpes-Maritimes region
Nice is famous world wide...it sits between Monaco to the East and Cannes to the West, with the foothills of the Alps behind it. 300 days of sunshine a year, and often warm enough in winter to eat outside at lunchtime. It is known for its mild climate.
Nice is a lively town with many bars and restaurants and an old historic centre where you can enjoy a beer and watch the world go by.
Nic has a 3 week Carnival period in February and Menton has the famous lemon festival on at the same time. In July there are jazz and music festivals in Nice and all along the coast. At Christmas time there is a big wheel, outside skating rink and Christmas market in Nice, and many others along the coast. Nice also has an opera house which has operas and ballets on in the winter season. Other opera and ballet venues are in Monaco and Cannes.
The daytime weather is lovely nearly all year long...November and April can be a bit wet on average, but sun rules the rest of the time. You can ski from January to April one and a half hours from Nice. Plenty of golf courses near by too.
Nice area
There is an antique market on Monday mornings in the old centre or the food/flower market is on on other mornings. Our local market, the largest in Nice in Ave Malaussena is on every morning except Monday. You can climb, take a lift (or the small tourist train) up to the chateau ruins above the old town for stunning views over the City and the Port. Or you can walk around the coastline or up into the hills. You can lie on the beach or walk, run, rollerblade or cycle along the Promenade. You can hop on a train to Italy, to go to the Friday market in Ventimiglia where you can buy clothes, handbags (including very good designer fakes), and shoes, and enjoy a good cappuccino and a panini. You can also get the train to Cannes for the film festival in May, or to Monaco for the Grand Prix in May. Antibes is also just along the coast with one of the largest marinas in the world hosting some stunning mega super yachts. Drink rose wine and eat moules frites in any one of many seafront restaurants. In February Nice hosts a carnival for 3 weeks with street parades, flower parades and music.
For children there is Marineland (dolphin, whale and seal shows) in Antibes, Aqualand in Antibes (splash centre open from beginning of June), Parc Phoenix in Nice (has reptiles, insects, birds, fish, flowers, and large children's play area), the Aquarium at Monaco, and bowling, skating, swimming, beaches, etc.
There is an open air swimming pool two minutes from the house which is open from June to September. There are 3 children's playgrounds within a short walk from the house.
I can arrange local children's clubs in French/bilingual French-English centres during some of the French school holidays (2 weeks from 18th April, or for all of July) for children aged 2 and upwards. Approximate cost is 150Euros for a week. There is also the option of learning Italian for 2 hours a day in a local kids club for children from age 3. There may be other short courses like this on too in the holiday periods.
I can also arrange local (English speaking or probably any other nationality too) babysitters or nannies for you. They are plentiful and cost around 8 - 10 Euros an hour.
Nice has two English speaking cinemas showing the latest films.
There is car hire available 5 minutes from the house if you wish to drive. Prices around 40 Euros a day.
How to get there
Fly to Nice airport using Easyjet, British Airways, Aerlingus, British Midland (Bmibaby), or any other European flight going that way, and then take a bus or taxi or hire a car. The apartment is about 15 minutes drive from the airport. A taxi will cost around 25 Euros. The no23 bus runs from the airport to the house at a cost of 1 Euro.
You can drive from the UK. The trip from Calais takes about 10 hours. Dijon or somewhere in Burgundy is a good place to stop if you wish to break the journey.

Further details outdoors: The garden is large and private. The upper garden and terrace is for the private use of the people renting this apartment. In the lower garden there is a petanque court. If you would like to play, then please ask Ben in the house upstairs for the boules. You may also use it for kicking a ball round. There is also a children's swing and slide set in the lower garden. There are cycles, etc for small children (baby to 5 year old at the moment).. plans to put in a sandpit as well. Also we have 3 bicycles to loan to adult guests, one with the possibility of a baby seat.
Parking nearby on the road is usually not too much of a problem. I have a garage opposite the house which will take a normal 4 door car but not an estate car or a 4 x 4 or anything bigger.
