The Provence Alpes Cote d'Azur / Alpes-Maritimes region
The French Riviera along the Mediterranean coast, provides its guests with fashionable elegant surroundings in an international atmosphere. South of France is a major tourist attraction for its close proximity to Monte Carlo (Monaco), Cannes, St Tropez and easy access to the rest of Europe. The hourly bus from Nice Port goes to Monte Carlo in approximately one hour. Milan is a 3 hours drive. There are regular train and bus services to Italy.
The quaint harbor fishing villages have become chic tourist destinations, now full of pleasure yachts and crowded summertime beaches. The famous resorts of Juan-les-Pins and Cap d'Antibes attract the stylish jet set.
Up in the hills are the quieter medieval villages. Sainte-Agnès offers magnificent panoramic views of the sea and mountains. In St. Paul-de-Vence tourists can browse through shops and galleries set on narrow winding cobblestone streets. Throughout the region are charming country homes and terraced private villas overflowing with colorful flowers.
The local village Grasse is the perfume capital of the world. The factories invite tourists to visit and learn how French perfumes are made.
The Nice / Promenade des Anglais area
Nice is the fifth largest city in France and is the capital of the French Riviera. Nice is believed to be one of the oldest human settlements in the world after evidence of the usage of fire was found. Other findings included flints and evidence of the construction of houses dating back to more than 230,000 ago. Nice became part of France in 1860, before this, it was an Italian dominion. Nice used to have its own castle, Colline du Chateau, which overlooks the harbour. Little remains of this castle, yet the views from its panoramic location are stunning.
Nice attractions: Promenade des Anglais, fine arts museum, Matisse Museum, Chagall Museum, Ruhl Casino, Parc des Miniatures, Place Masina, Old Nice....
