About this location
The French Riviera - Cote d'Azur region
The Cote d'Azur has so much to offer a visitor. There are the beaches, nightlife, shopping and wonderful restaurants as well as being a culturally rich area. Take the train to Monte Carlo/Monaco & visit the Cathedral, Royal Palace, Tropical Gardens, Oceanography museum, Grand prix route, Casinos & Prince's automobile collection. Go to Eze, a beautiful hilltop village perched above the Mediterranean. Spend some time in Beaulieu & visit the Villa Kerkylos & then maybe walk to the Villa Eprussi for its the stunning gardens. In Villefranche & Menton delve into the wonderful world of Jean Cocteau. If Picasso is more to your liking, visit Mougins to see where he lived, Vallauris where he was inspired to make pottery and finally his museum in Antibes. More Modern Art- then take the bus to St. Paul de Vence, a beautiful medieval walled village which is the burial site of Marc Chagall. It is full of art galleries and the famous restaurant La Colombe d'Or (famous for its works of art adorning the walls rather than its food!)as well as one of the best small Modern Art Museums in the world: Fondation Maeght.
If you go to Cannes, take in the Palais de Festival with the handprints of the stars in the concrete, stroll along La Croisette & take a boat ride to the tranquil Iles de Lerins. If you enjoy walking, there are wonderful trails in the mountains north of Nice where you can easily spend a day. How about exploring the Roman history with a visit to La Turbie & the Trophy des Alpes and maybe onto Ventimigilia with its amphitheatre? Whatever you choose to do, one can never be bored in Nice!
Within 2 mins of the apartment, there are at least 4 boulangeries for your morning croissant and baguette & 3 supermarkets with late opening hours. Countless restaurants are within a few minutes walk catering to all tastes from traditional Nicois food to pizzas, fresh seafood and a range of international cuisine.
Nice itself has much to offer. For museums, there are the Matisse, Musee des Beaux Arts, Chagall & Modern Art as well as many other smaller ,lesser-known ones like the Palais Lascaris in Old Town or the Massena Museum which focuses on the city's history. For markets, we have the Cours Saleya for fish, food and flowers except Mondays when it becomes the place for antiques. Even closer is a local fresh food market on Ave. Malaussena which is a 10 minute walk away. Maybe take the little train up to Colline du Chateau and enjoy the views and greenery. A short bus ride away is Le Cimiez, now mostly a residential area but where Roman Nice can be seen (including an arena) and also Matisse museum.
