Home description

This is an ideal property in which to take that well earned break you deserve. Its location makes it ideal as a base to explore the Cote D'Azur. There is so much to see and do in Nice you would not need to go anywhere else but in 30 minutes you also could be in Monaco or Cannes or even visit the inland villages where artists have enjoyed the scenery and Mediterranean light to paint their masterpieces. You get a sense of the real local France with it being in a residential area and can practice your French if desired. Daily fruit, veg and fish market on main road. But dont worry if your French is not good many speak English also. I love being there and a short break recharges my batteries.

The Provence Alpes Cote d'Azur / Alpes-Maritimes region

Nice is famous for its long, hot summers and mild winters. In January, the temperatures usually falls between 6 and 13 degrees Celsius (43 and 55 degrees Fahrenheit), whilst in August they range from 20 to 27 degrees Celsius (68 and 81 degrees Fahrenheit). On the coast, sea breezes keep the temperature cool enough to need a light jacket on summer evenings.

Nice / Central Nice area

Nice is the most popular destination in the Cote D'Azur. A cultural and aesthetic atmosphere prevails here, attracting more and more people each year to its carnival, music festivals, film shows and events, theatre, opera and the arts, which are run throughout the year. To view a list of forth-coming events click here. There is also a huge number of leisure & sport activities including skiing, surfing, cycling etc making it an ideal holiday destination for all ages.
Nice is full of an extraordinary artistic and cultural heritage. It has inspired, from time immemorial, the greatest painters, writers and musicians.

Places to go and Things to do

La Promenade des Anglais
To which Nice owes its fame and glory ! This superb sea-front boulevard, always decked with flowers, follows the curve of the "Baie des Anges" and was originally a path just two metres wide
Beaches
The beaches of Nice, and along the coast to Antibes, are shingle (smooth stones). From Antibes-Juan-les-Pins to Cannes, the beaches are sand. It's obvious which you need for building sand castles, but many people actually prefere the grit-free shingle beaches.

Vieux Ville (Old Town)
With narrow streets curving in irregular fashion between old buildings with red-tile roofs, this could be almost any medieval village of the region. The streets are packed with shops and shoppers.

Matisse Museum
This completely renovated 17th-century Genoan-style villa in the heart of the olive grove in the Gardens of Cimiez houses the personal collection of the great Fauvist painter who lived in Nice from 1917 until his death in 1954.

Le Cours Saleya
Every morning (except Mondays which are reserved for the antiques market) you will find the fruit and vegetable market and, throughout the day, the famous flower market. The numerous restaurants and boutiques add an extra touch of liveliness. There are scores of stands, from large, professionally displayed wares to folding tables set up by family farmers with their produce and live fowl directly from the farm.

Museum of contemporary & Modern Art
This original architecture (four grey marble towers linked by transparent walkways) and a major permanent collections tracing the history of the European and American avant-garde since the early sixties. Promenade des Arts Tel. 04 93 62 61 62 Open 10 a.m. - 6 p.m., except Monday and holidays. Admission: 4 Euros - Reduced rate: 2,50 Euros www.mamac-nice.org
