About this location

The French Riviera - Cote d'Azur region

The Cote d'Azur enjoys a pleasant all year round climate with an average of 300 days of sunshine per year.

The bright sunlight, vivid colours, blue sky and sea that attracted artists such as Picasso and Matisse are as remarkable as ever.

Nice is the capital of the Riviera and the fifth largest city in France. It really is a city with something for everyone. Its mixture of influences (Greek, Roman, English, Russian and American) has perhaps led to its modern day cosmopolitan feel but, although there is a strong Italian influence, particularly in the food and architecture, Nice is still unmistakably French.

The extensive rail network has frequent services to all the main coastal resorts including Mandelieu-La Napoule, Grasse, Cannes, Juan les Pins, Antibes, Villefranche sur Mer, Monaco, Menton and Ventimille in Italy. Other main line services mean that cities including Marseilles, Dijon and Milan are also within reach

The Port is within walking distance where a number of trips can be booked including the ferry to Corsica.

Nice is quite simply a holiday destination that is so irresistible. One visit, however long, is rarely enough!

One of the most sought after areas of Nice, the Carre d'Or area is close to four of the most famous streets in Nice: Boulevard Victor Hugo, Avenue Jean Medecin, Boulevard Gambetta and the world-famous The Promenade des Anglais. This area is characterised by superb turn-of-the-century buildings.

Parallel to the beach, Boulevard Victor Hugo is a splendid area dissecting the two most popular areas of the city, the Quartiers Musiciens and the Carre D'Or. As you would expect for such a location you have everything on your doorstep. Shops, cafes, bars, markets, museums and galleries all wait to be enjoyed along with some tranquil parks where you can relax with a newspaper and a coffee, winter through to summer.

The nearby famous Promenade des Anglais, just 200 meters away, is lined with palm trees and here you will discover that it really is one of the world's best known seafronts. Built by the English in 1822, it is the epitome of the prestige of the French Riviera that has seduced aristocrats and movie-stars alike. The Negresco Hotel, which could easily be one of the great museums in France, is truly a magnificent building, with its unique pink dome that was commissioned by the great architect Gustav Eiffel.

There is something for everyone in Nice, filled with hotels, bars, casinos and restaurants, there is always somewhere to unwind. For something truly different, why not dine in one of the many restaurants that adorn the beach itself. Yet a simple stroll is all it takes to bring you back to a time when only royals and tycoons holidayed on this glorious boulevard.
