Maïon dou Rousier
About the home
Maïon dou Rousier is a fully restored, 17th century stone village house, situated in the oldest part of the medieval village of Haut de Cagnes. It is surrounded by houses with either stone facades, or painted in the traditional provencal chalk colours of terracotta or ochre. The house has a large living- and dining area as well as one big roof terrace and a small breakfast terrace. An old fireplace is the centre piece of the living-room, equipped with two sofas and a stereo. The kitchen is recently rebuilt and is fully equipped. There are two bedrooms in the house, both with their own showers and wc. The master bedroom has a double bed that can be separated into single beds, while the guestroom has two single beds that can be put together to form a double bed. The house is very well kept, and carefully renovated in the traditional style. From the roof terrace, you have a stunning view over the Mediterranean and Cap d´Antibes, but also to the mountains.
Please note that like in most village houses, there are several floors in Maïon dou Rousier.
Maïon dou Rousier is only a minute away from the 13th century castle of Haut de Cagnes. The castle has an olive museum, and an art exhibition. At the "Place du Château", there are 5-7 restaurants, and two courts where the locals like to play the traditional Provencal game of "boule". Maybe you would like to try it out yourself? Close by you will also find "the restaurant street", with an additional 5-7 restaurants. A free shuttle bus takes you, in a couple of minutes, from the village down to the modern part of Cagnes sur Mer.

The French Riviera really has it all - sun and sea, art, food, wines, shopping and sports. Tour the museums and galleries, or go shopping in Nice, Cannes and St Tropez. Go skiing in Isola 2000 or Auron - it is only 1,5 hours from Haut de Cagnes. Or go hiking in the magnificent mountains just above the coast. Go visit all the wonderful vineyards. There is something for everyone! The area is also famous for its temperate climate. The summers are hot, the winters mild. Average temperatures in summer are 23-27 degrees C, and in winter 13-16 degrees.
The Nice / Cagnes Sur Mer area
Haut de Cagnes is a wonderful historical village, perched on a hilltop between Nice and Antibes, and overlooking the coastline between Cap Ferrat and Cap d´Antibes. Coming here is like walking a couple of hundred years back in time. Most people fall in love with it, some even find it magic. There are no tourist shops, but around 10-15 restaurants, a bar and a jazz club. The Place du Chateau is the heart of the village, and here you find the obligatory "boule" arena beside all 5-7 of the restaurants. The "restaurant street" is home for 5-7 more restaurants, and the luxury hotel Chateau du Cagnard offers high end dining in their beautiful restaurant. Take a short walk (around 5 minutes) and you get to the modern part of Cagnes sur Mer, where you find one of the best covered Provencal markets of the Riviera. There are also two supermarkets, banks, lots of shops, vegetable stands etc.
The mayor of Cagnes sur Mer is ambitious, and we now have our own Promenade (like in Nice) or Croisette (like in Cannes). The wide boardwalk along the beach is lined with pine and palm trees. On the other side of the sea road, the restaurants proudly present their terraces for outdoor eating, most of them with a beautiful view to the sea.
Within walking distance (1 hour) you will find the buzzling marina of St Laurent-du-Var, with all kinds of restaurants. You will find an even bigger marina in nearby Antibes, the little sea side town where all the luxury yachts line up. The town itself is a delight to see. Cannes is about 20-30 min away by car or train. You can reach very many places by bus - even little villages like world famous St Paul-de-Vence. The bus ride is only 1,5€!
