About this location
The Umbria region
At the heart of the boot, it is the only region with no coastline;. It includes Lake Trasimeno, central Italy’s largest lake. The area still has the remains of Etruscan settlements, particularly around Castiglione del Lago, where the loveliness of the natural landscape combines with the romanticism and stillness of the lake. Moving on from the two lakes, we come to the Cascate delle Marmore waterfalls near Terni, one of the most beautiful in Europe.
Food in Umbria is important and taken seriously. Seasons are marked by the arrived of different produce and there are small local festivals in different towns to celebrate everything from the onion harvests to polenta to truffles. Autumn is marked by the arrival of chestnuts and the special local pans used to cook them .
Perugia is Umbria's capital city and only 40 minutes drive away - a must for art lovers and Etruscan enthusiasts . In Perugia there is the annual Jazz Festival which is internationally renowned.
Within Umbria, and easy driving distance of the house, are Orvieto, Assisi and its beautiful basilica in honour of Saint Francis, Gubbio another beautiful medieval hill town, is half an hour's drive away and many other lesser know but equally fascinating small towns. The area was key in the Renaissance and local museums have an astonishing range of work by artists such as Perugino and Piero della Francesca. Lake Trasimeno (Italy's 4th largest lake).
Stunning little Cortona and lovely San Sepolcro are both well within an hour's scenic drive. If you prefer to stick closer to home, why not explore the surrounding hills By Moto KTM you can rent one.
Although old, is still uncertainty as to the origin of the town of Umbertide.
Umbertide is a thriving small town with a weekly market which draws in local farmers with their produce.
As well as the vegetable and fish stalls which travel between the cluster of small rural communities.

"Piece of Italian heaven"
Beautiful new two-storied, spacious house full of light, which was stocked with everything needed. Tranquil surroundings and landscaped garden filled with plum trees and lavenders. Large swimming pool which we shared mainly on the weekends with a lovely Italian family. The owners are one of the nicest people we've ever met. We arrived after two in the night and they came to meet us to deliver the key personnally! They were very kind and showed great hospitality, they even invited us on couple occasions for dinner with their extended family and friends. They were very helpful when needed and gave us good pointers on places we should visit, made our vacation one of the best so far. Highly recommended.
