Visiting the Province to see friends and relatives, without imposing our teenage clan, our criteria was a suitable sized property within reasonable distance of Belfast; but as it was half term and the said teenagers wanted to see more of their 'heritage' (Mum is from N Ireland, Dad from England but they have never lived in UK). So a 'tourist spot' on the Ards Penninsula seemed a good idea. As it turned out, it was a stroke of genius. We had to travel 'the pretty route' from Germany via Stafford (University) and arrived after 30 hours at late O'Clock, where a warm cottage, tea and 'wee buns' were waiting. A lovely cottage even in the dark, and rooms are larger than the pictures suggest. Simply but comfortably and ideally furnished we were able to retire fairly quickly. The next morning we were able to see how lucky our choice had been. We knew the cottage was 'on' the beach, but not how striking the view was. Scotland was clear to see, and the weather was great for October, with 5 days of brilliant Indian summer -wonderful 'light' and amazingly blue sky. For one 24 hours we had the wettest day in province history -100mm of rain and dramatic seas viewed from the comfort of the cottage - not to be missed!. Then back to the October summer! We chose Whiskin Cottage for convenience for a family visit, and had a holiday whilst there. We will book again for that 'proper' holiday, when we may also visit family, but will definitely visit new friends of Millisle. (Sorry no photo's this time - next time we will be better prepared). Thank you John, Brian and Frances. |
