Enquire nowThe West Country / Cornwall region
Famed for its pasties and cream teas, the West Country is a largely rural area and includes the counties of Cornwall, Devon, Dorset and Somerset. Its other claim to fame is as the host for the Glastonbury festival.
Cornwall has a mild climate, and there are many Stone Age and industrial archaeological sites to be found, as well as the Cornwall and West Devon Mining Landscape, which is a World Heritage site. The Cornish language is still taught in some schools and used in some civil ceremonies.
Cornwall is also known for its rich folk music tradition, and there are plays and festivals such as the Mummers Plays, the Furry Dance in Helston, and Obby Oss in Padstow.
The Newquay / Fistral Beach area
The cottage is only a few minutes from Fistral beach, which hosts surf championships and is undoubtedly one of the best beaches in Cornwall.
Next to the beach is an 18 hole golf course, so whilst the family are entertained on the beach Dad can play golf!!
Also in the opposite direction 5 minutes walk, from the house is The Gannel Estuary for horse-riding, bird watching, fishing and fabulous walks, or simply to escape the crowds.
The boating lake and gardens are worth a visit. Not far from them are Newquay Zoo and a fun pool for the kids.
Newquay town centre is 10 minutes walk, there you will find plenty of shops, cafes and bars. Nightlife is well catered for and there is plenty to choose from. In the town nearby is Towan Beach on the front is an aquarium and Newquay Harbour (if you are lucky you may see our resident seal)! With seven beautiful beaches you are spoilt for choice.
The Eden Project has been a very popular tourist attraction and is approx. 15 miles from Newquay, worth a visit. There are some beautiful gardens to visit, my favourite is Trebah gardens near Falmouth, and it has a hidden beach ideal for picnics. Just to mention a few!!

We stayed at the cottage with 4 adults, 3 children and a dog and there was more than enough room for us! 2 big fridge freezers meant that we could stock up well for the week. The kitchen was well... more |

I stayed at this property when visiting Cornwall for a family reunion break and had a thoroughly enjoyable time! From initial enquiry into accommodation availabiliy through to departure and return of deposit, the whole experience was simple and efficient - the property owner even meets you on arrival to hand over the keys, gives you a tour of the property answering any questions we had and offered local advice (a really nice personal touch!!!) Fistral Bay Cottage itself is gorgeous - homely cottage feel but really spacious too. The interior has all the mod-cons and the furnishing is of a high standard too. Weather was great when we were there so we took advantage of the garden and BBQ facilities one night of our stay. You're literally a two minute walk from Fistral Beach and can head into Newquay town centre in a car in 5 mins or a leisurely 15 min stroll along fairly quiet roads - as we had a group of mixed ages it was the perfect find...based in a nice quiet area meant no disturbances but so close to the bustle of town if we wanted it was great. Other highlight points - parking in front of the cottage for two/even three cars was really helpful given family were travelling from all over the country. Outdoor games/body boards left for our use in the garage were brilliant. The two double rooms and two twin rooms made for really easy bedroom sorting - no squabbling with the children :) I don't normally make the effort to post reviews on my holidays but really was very impressed with this cottage that I thought it would be rude not to! We stayed for only a long weekend on this first visit but I'm definitely planning to return with my boyfriend later this year - pricing and flexibility for out of season breaks is great and even in high season is stil very competitive when you look at what else is available in the area. A big thumbs up from me and my family - hope you get chance to visit too! |
