The West Country region

Porth Beach is a lovely sandy beach with a sheltered aspect protected by headlands on both sides.

As the beach shelves gently it makes it the safest beach in the area for small children whilst the surfing beaches at Lusty Glaze or Whipsiderry, voted in the Top 20 beaches in Europe by the Sunday Times, are just around the headlands.

Walking is also very popular in Porth with paths linking east to Watergate Bay and west to Lusty Glaze and Newquay town centre. Easy access makes it popular with families and those with walking difficulties. Porth Beach is a 5 minute drive from Newquay or a 25-30 minute walk. Porth Island to the east of the beach is accessed by a narrow footbridge, it has some impressive prehistoric defensive earthworks and remains of a settlement. At the end of the island is a blow hole visible at mid tide, especially on windy days. It is a spectacular spot for photography and storm watching in the winter.

There are cafes across the road from the beach and a pub on the beach - the Mermaid boasting 'a fantastic menu and specials board serving the best in local fish and home cooked food daily'. Just up the road is 'The Pantry' a local deli that makes fresh sandwiches and salads.

There is no surfing permitted during the summer season when RNLI lifeguards are on duty between the hours of 10am and 6pm.

Situated between Newquay and Watergate Bay on the rugged north Cornwall coast, Porth provides an ideal base from which to discover the surrounding area.

Highlights include:

Fistral Beach - the iconic surfers paradise

Blue Reef Aquarium

Newquay Zoo

Oasis Fun Pools

Trenance Gardens & Leisure Park

Newquay Harbour

Gannel Estuary

Classic Air Force Museum

Trerice Manor

as well as some other spectacular beaches - Lusty Glaze - surfing, Tolcarne, Watergate, Whipsiderry, Towan, Great Western, Crantock - voted 'Best Beach' by the BBC Coast in 2013... all within 3miles.

Newquay

Newquay is a vibrant town populated by lovers of surfing, diving, fishing and all manner of watersports. Its amenities include the Lighthouse cinema, a zoo, an aquarium, many and varied eating establishments and a lively nightlife scene. Close by are attractions ranging from The Minack theatre, the Eden project, Bodmin moor, Bedruthan steps, Lappa Railway as well as many family orientated theme parks. If you add to this the close proximity of towns such as St Ives, Padstow, Perranporth and Truro, you can see that it is an ideal location for a holiday to suit the needs of every member of the family!
