Home description

The coves at Pwllgwaelod and Cwym-yr-Eglwys are magical at all times of the year; the Pembs coastal path one of the great walks of the British Isles; the village of Newport one of those enigmatic unspoilt places which have transformed themselves to cater for sophisticated holidaymakers requiring quality restaurants that still offer value, pubs with proper beer, a butcher whose meat is renowned across the county. Our cottage is ideally positioned to get all this. The cottage is quiet, with a secluded rear patio that attracts the sun, and is easy for people with limited mobility.

The West Wales / Pembrokeshire / Pembrokeshire region

The north coast of Pembrokeshire has cliffs and coves, places to explore and enjoy. Visitors will find attractive and affordable places to visit and eat in. The National Park includes a swathe of open country in the Prescelli hills which are very close to Dinas village (1 mile). Pwllgwaelod is a sandy cove facing Fishguard bay, and Cwm-yr-Egwys a similar cove facing Newport Bay. These beaches provide safe swimming and have natural shelter. The area has plenty of history - ancient chapels, monuments and burial sites, and St Davids Cathedral.

Newport / Pwllgwaelod area

Riding, boats and swimming, walking, and some great off-road bike trails make N Pembs a place for where you can enjoy activities at reasonable prices and without crowds. There's a lot of culture, Brynhenllan village having a number of well known artists as residents. The St Davids music festival in the cathedral, the Fishguard Music Festival and other music activities such as Cardigan Eisteddfod, male voice choirs all provide different and memorable evenings. Being outside busy Newport can be a bonus in the summer season. You can borrow my 14ft Skipper dinghy if you're a competent sailor. There is a bike at the cottage, and another available.

How to get there

It's easy to relax in the good sized living room which has TV, video, and DVD, quality sofas, easy chair, and a modern glass topped coffee table. By the adjoining kitchen you'll find a antique Pembroke table (two flaps) and cottage dining chairs, and the kitchen has a washing machine, new electric stove, fridge, microwave etc. Two bedrooms are the other side of the hall, one with a double bed and the other has two singles. The bathroom is new (2008) with a new boiler for water and central heating. There's a travel cot and high chair.
The cottage is furnished as a home with good quality beds and sofas etc, and you'll find an interesting selection of books, music, paintings. The idea is to provide you with more than a shell in which to live, but a place that offers more than the standard rental cottage or hotel room.

Further details outdoors:
The small lawn, garden and patio can be secured for small children, and the patio is a real sun trap.
There are three uncrowded beaches in easy walking distance. Pwllgwaelod is the closest at 700 metres. It faces west to Fishguard Bay, is sandy and has very safe swimming. Cwm-yr-Egwys is 5 mins further, faces east to Newport Bay, has gold sand and is popular for boating. Aberbach beach (shingle) must be added to this choice of beaches. It's a 20 min walk, has no parking and is therefore almost always totally empty. The Coastal Path provides superb walking, going west to Fishguard (4m) and east to Newport (3m). There's a bus service to bring you back.
The links Golf course at Newport a 5 min drive, there's another in Cardigan and others in the area. Sea fishing
happens from Fishguard 10 mins and St Davids 25 mins.
