The West Wales/Pembrokeshire region

The Pembrokeshire Coast National Park covers almost a third of the county and the entire coastline is part of the Pembrokeshire Coast Path. The path runs for 186 miles and weaves its way from Amroth in the south to St Dogmaels in the north and takes in a vast array off spectacular headlands, vast, sandy beaches, and tiny, secret coves. You can see a huge diversity of bird life, dolphin, porpoises and seals and is a paradise for walkers and beach lovers alike.

National Geographic recently voted Pembrokeshire the second best coastal destination in the world and Barafundle Bay, in the south of the county, has been voted one of the top 10 beaches in the world.

Newport

From the gate at Treffynnon you walk straight out on to the fabled Preseli Mountains where the bluestones at Stonehenge are believed to have come from. The iron age fort of Carn Ffoi is only a few hudred yards away and is loved by kids of all ages. From here, on a clear day, you can see the mountains of the Lleyn Peninsular in North Wales and the Wicklow Mountains in Ireland.

Treffynnon is a mile from the town of Newport, which has a good selection of shops, cafés and pubs. Parrog Beach beach is in walking distance, while the larger beach of Traeth Mawr (literally Big Beach but generally known as Newport Sands or The Beach) is a 10 minute drive, although walking enthusiasts can easily reach it by walking along the estuary at low tide.

Further afield is the Cathedral town of St Davids which is well worth a visit and boat trips to the islands of Skomer and Ramsey can be spectacular.
