This cottage is a converted stone barn, formerly an artist's studio.
It has a sunny breakfast room with quarry tiles and former chapel leaded-glass window, a big open-plan living/main sleeping area with a woodburning stove, a characterful kitchen, shower room and separate toilet.
The main sleeping area is on the ground floor with a large double bed and a sleeping crog loft on the first floor provides 2 additional single beds, partially open to the main room. This area is accessed by ladders.
|Further details outdoors|
The cottages are set in five acres of gardens, copses and fields. It's very green and very quiet apart from lots of birdsong. Guests are welcome to explore our gardens and land. There's a beautiful walled garden that's a real sun-trap, and lots of nice picnic spots in the fields and under the trees.
Maen-Offeiriad (pronounced 'mine off-airy-add') means 'the priest-stone'. We've been told that the name refers to a large slab of Preseli Bluestone half-hidden beneath an oak tree, but no-one seems to know where the name comes from. The spot has been occupied for a very long time; at least 200 years. There is a very old stone pigsty next to the cottage that's a listed building!
About this location
The Pembrokeshire region
We are located within the Pembrokeshire National Park. The cottage is at the foot of Foel Drygarn, and iron-age hill fort in the Preseli Mountains. Miles of wonderful walking is literally on the door step.
The Pembrokeshire coastal path and beaches are within a 15 minute drive.
The beaches, restaurants and shops of Newport are a 15 minute drive. Cardigan which is a larger town is about 20 minutes drive.
The famous Pentre Ifan burial chamber, and Castell Henlys which recreates an iron age village are both close by.
Fantastic walking, cycling and riding all in the area.

"Wonderfully peaceful, superbly located"
We spent 9 days in this wonderful place benefitting from the peace and quiet and the R&R that this enabled at a very busy point in our lives. An easy walk out of the gate up onto the Preselis or a 15 … More

"Maen-Offeiriad, Pembrokeshire, a real Gem"
We had a short mid week stay in the Garden Cottage, a well appointed and maintained cottage in a quiet corner of Pembrokeshire yet close to all the main visitor attractions. Our hosts Tim and Norma were perfect and we enjoyed a very relaxed few days. This Cottage was highly recommended to us by friends, we are more than happy to pass on that recommendation. Maen-Offeiriad is a real gem.

"Looking for a cottage in Pembrokeshire? Look no further!"
Garden House - Rural, quiet, dog-friendly, simply one of the best cottages we've stayed in!
Tim and Norma are lovely people, and were incredibly welcoming, helpful and friendly. The Garden House cottage is beautiful and the photographs really don't do it justice. Superbly decorated to a high standard throughout and comfy furniture...but still dog-friendly. Well-equipped kitchen with fridge, dish-washer, washing machine and access to freezer. Log-burning stove with all wood provided was a real bonus. Oh, and there's a piano! Lovely secure garden and beautiful grounds around the rest of the property to stroll around for that early morning/last thing at night walk. Tim and Norma encourage visitors to be as eco-friendly as they are and recycling bins are provided. Lots of information provided on local services so it was very easy to support local shops and businesses. Centrally located so that all of Pembrokeshire, Cardiganshire and counties beyond are within easy reach, or the Preseli Hills are right on the doorstep if you don't want to venture too far.
Would easily rate this 20 out of 10! I really can't recommend it highly enough.

"Best relaxing stay away we've had for a long time!"
Been back for a week after staying in the 'Artists Studio' at Maen Offeiriaid but really didn't want to leave. We loved the seclusion and proximity to the amazing Preseli Hills. It was lovely to be surrounded by trees and walk through the grounds. The cottage was snug and had all we needed and was the perfect place to relax. Lots to see and do in the area without travelling too far (beaches, valleys, castles, markets, iron age forts, etc). Norma and Tim were very welcoming and gave us lots of advice on what to do and where to go. We'll be back!

"A Perfect Retreat"
The Artist's Studio is a lovely, cosy place to escape to if you are looking for a quiet location set in beautiful countryside. Stained glass windows and other quaint features combined with comfortable furnishings and a well equipped kitchen make this a cottage that you will want to come back to . Tim and Norma, who live in the house nearby are excellent hosts, going out of their way to ensure that you have everything you need and their knowledge of the surrounding countryside will help you decide where to spend your time in this peaceful, unspoilt part of the UK. You can go for a walk up into the Preseli Hills straight from the door where there are commanding views of the beautiful North Pembrokeshire countryside.

"Artists Studio - a perfect get-away"
As soon as turn off in Crymrych and make your way down the narrow country roads, you know you're in a special location. Maen-Offeriad is on a lane which ends in the beautiful Presli hills. Tim and Norma gave us a really warm welcome and went to the trouble of writing out an up-do-date list of eateries and delis for us to try. They are great hosts, very unintrusive but always happy to offer tips and advice (as well as catch an errant young magpie that had wandered into the kitchen!).
We stayed in the Artists' Studio, which is a charming, peaceful space with a comfy bed and wonderful power shower. Nestled in a rambling garden, It's full of character.
We enjoyed being such a short walk away from the hills and could have spent the week just exploring them from the studio - easy climbs up to ancient cairns and contouring walks which take in views down to the sea.
So many other places vied for interest, though - the coastpath and beaches, ancient burial sites, forests, market towns...It's a very unspoilt area still, and in the sunshine, absolutely stunning. You need more than a week, really.
I would recommend this wholeheartedly to anyone looking for a quiet retreat in the clean mountain air, and who enjoys being next to the sea. A real find.

"Friendly rural retreat"
My partner and I stayed in The Artists Studio for a week of walking and kayaking. It was a perfect base - we loved the fact that you can just step out the door onto the hills. Norma and Tim were very friendly and helpful, with lots of useful information about where to go and what to do. The small kitchen is well-stocked and cooking there was a pleasure. The place feels cared-for and homely, with generous touches such as an OS map and walks book, plenty of books to read, and a stock of logs to burn for the cooler evenings. Although we were near the owners' house and another rental property, the place felt very private and secluded and gave us the break from busy city life that we wanted.

"The Garden House - a trip to wonderland!"
We spent a lovely relaxing week in The Garden House at Maen-Offeiriad. Two adults, one teenager and two lively Labradors all felt totally at home with plenty of space and even Wi-Fi so the teen could keep in touch with the virtual world.
The cottage had everything that you could possibly need, very clean and well decorated. Very easy to live in!
The garden was sheltered and a good size with table, chairs and loungers to enjoy the afternoon sun.
The grounds of Maen-Offeiriad are an absolute delight to walk around and 'explore'.... young children must love getting to know them.
Tim and Norma, the owners, were both friendly and helpful but unobtrusive, the perfect hosts!
Pembrokeshire lived up to its reputation for beauty. There are amazing walks right on your doorstep without the need for a car. In no more than 20 minutes you can be at the beach!
So much to do, so much to see... a week only touched the surface.
Impossible to find fault - The Garden House was the perfect place to stay and we hope to return soon.

"Peaceful, comfortable retreat, a real home- from -home"
The Garden House was modern and comfortable, yet peaceful and tranquil. The children enjoyed the piano and it was a great place for dogs, with plenty of dog friendly areas. Tim & Norma were very welcoming and friendly, ready to help whenever possible. It is in a great position to explore the surrounding area either by car or on foot.
