Further details indoors

This cottage is a converted stone barn, formerly an artist's studio.

It has a sunny breakfast room with quarry tiles and former chapel leaded-glass window, a big open-plan living/main sleeping area with a woodburning stove, a characterful kitchen, shower room and separate toilet.

The main sleeping area is on the ground floor with a large double bed and a sleeping crog loft on the first floor provides 2 additional single beds, partially open to the main room. This area is accessed by ladders.

Further details outdoors

The cottages are set in five acres of gardens, copses and fields. It's very green and very quiet apart from lots of birdsong. Guests are welcome to explore our gardens and land. There's a beautiful walled garden that's a real sun-trap, and lots of nice picnic spots in the fields and under the trees.

Maen-Offeiriad (pronounced 'mine off-airy-add') means 'the priest-stone'. We've been told that the name refers to a large slab of Preseli Bluestone half-hidden beneath an oak tree, but no-one seems to know where the name comes from. The spot has been occupied for a very long time; at least 200 years. There is a very old stone pigsty next to the cottage that's a listed building!

The West Wales/Pembrokeshire region

We are located within the Pembrokeshire National Park. The cottage is at the foot of Foel Drygarn, and iron-age hill fort in the Preseli Mountains. Miles of wonderful walking is literally on the door step.

The Pembrokeshire coastal path and beaches are within a 15 minute drive.

Newport

The beaches, restaurants and shops of Newport are a 15 minute drive. Cardigan which is a larger town is about 20 minutes drive.

The famous Pentre Ifan burial chamber, and Castell Henlys which recreates an iron age village are both close by.

Fantastic walking, cycling and riding all in the area.

"The garden house was beautiful. lovely garden an perfect to get away from it all."

The garden house was beautiful and home from home so had all we needed for us with 2 small children and a dog.
Tim and Norma are lovely an very helpful.
Lovely garden with lots of wildlife and the eggs from the chicken very tasty too.
Close to gorgeous beaches and easy drive to next town for groceries etc.
Ticked all the boxes for us as we wanted to be somewhere quiet but not too far to drive for beaches, shops etc.
Would definitely recommend a stay here.

"The Artist's Studio - a cottage from a fairytale, but with all the mod cons!"

Even without the perfect weather we experienced during our stay at the Artist's Studio in North Pembrokeshire, we would have had a fantastic time. The cottage is incredibly cosy, but with its studio appeal - high, peaked ceilings, Velux windows, open plan layout and crog lofts - it had a very open feel and never felt cramped. The lush, five-acre gardens surrounding the cottage (and owners' cottage and second rental property at Maen Offeiriad) gave us the feeling of being in our own corner of Eden, and provided a very peaceful setting, with wild flowers, a meadow, lots of wildlife and plenty of shady trees. Just what we needed, and one of the many ways the cottage exceeded our expectations.

The cottage was well stocked with all the equipment we needed, and the kitchen was a pleasure to cook in. The owners' commitment to environmental responsibility was evident and admirable, and they made it easy for us to keep our holiday low-impact, by providing compost, food waste and recycling bins, as well as a jar for cooking fats and oils, ecologically friendly cleaning products, and bathroom fittings to save water (from their private, spring-fed supply - delicious for drinking water!). We also made use of the guest recommendations book and various maps and walking guides provided in the cottage - ideal, as the cottage was located on the side of the beautiful Preseli Hills, with open moorland just five minutes up the track!

Overall, our week can only be described as perfect. We loved staying at the Artist's Studio and were sad to leave! A week is not long enough to explore all the beauty and diversity of Pembrokeshire, and I'm sure we'll return to Maen Offeiriad in the future.

"Tranquil, friendly hideaway"

Just what the doctor ordered. We wanted peace and quiet, with enough space for our loony dog and access to dog-friendly beaches. Maen-Offeiriad offered us all this plus a friendly welcome and our batteries feel fully recharged. The Artist's Studio does not pretend to be luxurious but is quirky and very comfortable, light and airy in the day and cosy at night. The cottage in which the owners live, and the other rental cottage, are close by but because of the layout (the studio's conservatory and windows face away from them and the little patio area has its own secret access to the beautiful wild gardened area) you can go all day, inside and out, without seeing anyone if that's what you choose. . And Tim and Norma, the owners, are equally happy to let you do that or to chat and advise as you wish. Most important for us was that we could relax knowing our energetic dog was free to enjoy himself too - when they say it is dog friendly they really mean it, and the resident dog, Jake, is very welcoming too. We didn't do much while we were there but relax and make the occasional trip to the beach. We didn't feel the need. We loved it.

"A beautiful hideaway set within stunning countryside"

We have just returned from a fantastic week at the Artists Studio. Our little family - me, my wife and our 6-month old baby boy, had a brilliant time exploring the nearby historic sights and enjoyed cosy nights in perfect comfort. Tim and Norma were excellent hosts and we will definitely be booking again, possibly bringing the extended family and staying in both cottages!

Book with confidence - you'll have a great time!

"Heavenly Haven"

I took the Artist's Studio cottage for one very sunny week. My daughter and family rented the other. Very advantageous arrangement as we ate in their cottage in the evenings and I could escape to my haven afterwards! It is very well kitted out and everything worked. It takes some time to work out where everything is as it has a quirkiness too it which adds to its charms. The downstairs bed was very comfortable, so important for those with back problems. Kids would love the hay loft ladder to the eyrie bedroom. Tim and Norma were there in the background if one needed them. Jake the dog is super-friendly. The walk behind the house up into the Preseli Hills was great if boggy in places and all the sea coves and beaches from Llangrannog to Whitesands are fabulous. Spoiled for choice for food in Newport: I particularly liked Cnapan (must book) and the Old Sailor on the shore of Pwll Gwaenod.

"staying here was like stepping in to another world, one which we didn't want to leave!"

What a fantastic, magical place. The artists studio is a truly wonderful, cosy, warm, unique and comfortable place to spend a weekend away. The garden was a true oasis of serenity which let us de-stress completely. I stayed with my wife and 6 month old baby and Tim and Norma couldn't have been nicer or more accommodating. we will definitely be returning!
