The West Wales/Pembrokeshire region

Pembrokeshire and in particular the coastal area is particularly loved by visitors seeking peace and quiet coupled with wonderful scenery and opportunities to spend the time with families young and old.

Newport offers these opportunities in abundance and confirms what families are looking for from the comments in our visitors books since we started letting 1989.

Newport has its own climate, being protected from south easterly winds (and rain) by the Preseli mountains rising up behind the village. The climate often surprises visitors with warm, balmy days when one can laze on the Big Beach on the other side of the river, or on blustery days walk along the Coastal Path (220 miles long) which can be accessed just across from Glandwr. Alternatively for the keen golfer there is a testing par 72 18 hole links course on the other side of the river. For the kids (and adults sometimes!) there are crabbing competitions run from the Boat Club, horse riding, swimming, surfing, sailing, fishing (sea & river), visits to local towns such as Fishguard and Cardigen which have local markets. There are candle makers, coracle makers, antique shops and art galleries galore, In other words, your holiday can either be very busy or just palin idyllic!

Pembrokeshire is known as 'Little England west of Wales'. This is not meant to mean that the character of the county is English, by no means! Welsh is the first language, but of course English is spoken with that wonderful musical lilt one comes to expect from such a musical nation. Go to one of the local music festivals in summer and see what I mean.

The county is unspoilt and apart from Milford Haven (interesting for those who want to see giant oil and LPG tankers docking at the oil refinery) there is little in the way of heavy industry. It is the charm of the countryside coupled with the peace and quiet which attracts visitors who want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the big cities. That is why visitors come time and again, some even for over 30 years.
