About the home

Situated in the small hamlet of Knighton in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) it is ideally situated for walking with access to a nationally acclaimed network of footpaths, along with illustrated guides for circular walks from the cottage. The nearest beaches are only 10-15 minutes drive away (approx 7km). There are 2 supermarkets wtihin 3 miles and also many places to eat. Well equipped with all the accommodation on the ground floor, guests have use of the fully enclosed large landscaped garden, including lawn area suitable for ball games
French doors open out onto a patio area with garden furniture and bbq. Red squirrels, woodpeckers and many other birds are frequent visitors. Suitable for families of all ages as well as couples, but no pets please.

The Isle of Wight region

The Isle of Wight is one of the sunniest places in Britain, and with a coastline of sixty miles you can always find a sheltered, sandy beach. There are many attractions to visit, including Carisbrooke Castle, Osborne House, Blackgang Chine, Robin Hill, Donkey Sanctuary, Sandown Zoo, Dinosaur museum and Roman Villas. It is ideal for walking and cycling, with a network of trails covering the whole island - there are Walking Festivals in May and September.

The mild climate enables the Botanic Garden at Ventnor to have collections of sub-tropical and tender plants.
Cowes Week in August is a 'must' for those interested in sailing.

The Newchurch area

The hamlet of Knighton is a mile from Newchurch, where the Pointer Inn serves delicious food, and the 900 year old Church is well worth a visit.

The Garlic Farm Shop and Restaurant are an easy walk from Barn Cottage. Robin Hill and Amazon World are just 5 minutes away by car.

Barn Cottage is 15 minutes from the Fishbourne - Portsmouith Wightlink car ferry, and 10 minutes from the Ryde passenger ferry and Hovercraft links to Portsmouth. It is 25 minutes from the East Cowes - Southampton Red Funnel car ferry . The nearest Airport is Southampton. Car hire is easily arranged from Island ferry terminals.

“Everything we could have wanted in a stunning location” My father booked Barn Cottage for myself, husband and 2 girls (2 and 6) as a present, and what a wonderful choice! Barn Cottage was well located for all major attractions on the island, plus other amenities. Having use of the huge, beautiful garden was a highlight, especially as we had a week of non-stop sunshine and the children loved being outside in what was a safe, enclosed space. Inside, the cottage was well equipped and had everything we needed. It was cosy and child friendly. Mr and Mrs Corbin were very welcoming and we would be very happy to stay here again when we next visit the Isle of Wight.

“Greart Location, lovely cottage,fantastic garden and very freindly owners.” We took ourb 2 yr old grandson with us for a one week holiday, we could not have selected a better cottage. The garden was lovely at least two acreas with aloving keep flower beds. Our grandson loved running around. The cottage had everything you need including the nice touch of tea and coffee provided. The place is well appointed even if quaint. The location is quiet and you need a car but you are only 5mls from Sandown and Ryde. Would definately go again.

“Pretty Cottage in a Stunning Location” Lovely and cosy little cottage in a peaceful and stunning location. We have had 3 memorable stays at Barn Cottage with our two young boys and have thoroughly enjoyed our visit each time. Mrs Corbin gave us a very warm welcome when we arrived and our children also loved talking to Mr and Mrs Corbin and found them very lovely and friendly. The cottage itself is neat and tidy and the kitchen is well equipped with everything you could possibly have a need for! There is lots of information in the cottage on places to visit, where to eat etc. My husband enjoyed reading the books on the local history. Our kids loved discovering the toy cupboard but most of all they were fascinated by the massive garden which was perfect for running around and playing ball games. The garden is enclosed so is very safe for young children. The cottage has ample parking and is ideally situated to reach all the attractions, local supermarkets and the beaches. There is a local pub which does good food nearby. Because of our children's special diets, we made many visits back and forth to the cottage quickly and easily during the day, so the location suited us perfectly. We enjoyed sitting on the patio and just taking in the view of the pretty garden. It's a beautiful place to come back to and relax after you have had a busy day at the beach, and even if it rains, you will not be disappointed. In fact, our boys say that anytime we come to Isle of Wight again, they cannot imagine staying at a place other than Barn Cottage.

“Amazing outdoor space” The location of the cottage was beautiful with peaceful surroundings. You need a car to get around but we found it a great base as it was an easy drive to Shanklin, Sandown etc and all of the attractions. There was lots of info in the cottage on local amenities and things to see and do! And there is a nice pub with great food not far away. Mrs Corbin met us when we arrived - she was lovely and friendly and very helpful. The cottage was compact but clean and neat. The kitchen had pretty much everything we needed for cooking and there were also things like washing up liquid, tea and coffee and even milk in the fridge! The beautiful garden which we had use of was huge and our boys loved running around playing hide and seek and football etc. and when the weather was nice it was lovely to sit out on the patio. Probably our only gripe (apart from the changable weather!) was the sofas which for my tall husband were a tad small and uncomfortable! Apart from that we had a fab time and would come back again.
