The Northern England / Northumberland region

North East England is fast becoming a top holiday destination thanks to its wealth of attractions and warm welcome for visitors. The whole region is very accessible using NewcastleGateshead as a base.
Northumberland is possibly England's most scenic county with vast areas of open countryside, scattered with ancient castles and a fantastic coastline which has been awarded both Heritage Coast and Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty status.
Exploring the area is easy by public transport or car and there are ample footpaths and cycle routes.
Not to be missed is Bamburgh - a quaint village with a safe sandy beach, bordered with sand dunes and overlooked by one of the region's most striking castles. A little further north is Holy Island - a very special place which may be reached by a causeway when it is not cut off by the tides. A few miles further south is the attractive historic town of Alnwick, home to Barter Books as well as Alnwick Castle and the internationally renowned Alnwick Garden created by the Duchess of Northumberland.
Also, within easy reach of NewcastleGateshead are two must-see World Heritage Sites - the wild and wonderful Hadrian's Wall and the monumental Durham Cathedral and Castle.
The Newcastle Upon Tyne / Quayside area
Just a short walk from the apartment is the famous Quayside with its iconic bridges including the award-winning tilting Gateshead Millennium Bridge, the Sage Gateshead, the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art and a wide range of waterfront bars and restaurants.
On Sundays there's the much-loved Quayside open-air market with dozens of stalls selling crafts, jewellery, artwork and delicious home-produced food. During the summer months there are often street artists performing alongside the river.
Between the apartment and the Quayside is the Hilton Hotel which has excellent spa and gym facilities which can be used by day visitors.
Less than two miles away is the awesome Angel of the North - public art on a truly grand scale - and one of the most recognised symbols of the North East.
NewcastleGateshead has a wealth of cultural assets including many historic buildings, theatres, cinemas, museums, fabulous shopping centres plus restaurants and cafes offering every kind of cuisine.
The city centre and the railway station are just a pleasant walk away across the listed and beautifully restored High Level Bridge - a perfect way to enjoy the riverside panorama. There are also regular Quaylink buses running along both riverbanks and connecting with shopping facilities. The Centrelink bus provides a 10 minute express service from Gateshead Interchange to the MetroCentre - a shopper's paradise.

Absolutley brilliant stay here. Couldn't believe how quiet it was. Views of the High Level Bridge were amazing and a great view of Newcastle too. Literally a 10 minute, picturesque walk to the centre of Newcastle. If you're looking for a relaxing break in this area then look no further. The owner, Hazel was very helpful and only too happy to answer our questions. We're hoping to stay here again sometime in early 2012. |

Booked a last minute break to this property during October half term, the owner was very accommodating given the short notice. Communication were very prompt and helpful directions were given to find the property on arrival. The hospitality was outstanding, for example the owner was kind enough to provide us with some milk as we were arriving late on a Sunday. The apartment itself was very modern and well presented with everything we could want and the added bonus of secure parking. Location was ideal, a short walk to the city centre and attractions, but in a quiet area. There's lots to do in the local area, with the beautiful bridges and galleries. The city has a buzzing and friendly atmosphere. It is only a short distance by car to the beach and some of the Roman ruins at Hadrian's wall are under an hours drive. We really enjoyed our stay here, and if we are up Newcastle again we would definitely choose to stay here again. We highly recommend this property to others. |

From when the moment I first enquired about the apartment, Hazel (the owner) was extremely helpful. The apartment is located very close to the Gateshead bus/rail interchange and just a short walk over the High Level bridge to Newcastle city centre and also the NUFC stadium. On arriving, Hazel talked us through the apartment's facilites, location of various attractions/supermarkets/restaurants etc which was very helpful as we had never been to Newcastle before! The apartment was superb, clean tidy and very modern, loved it!. Could not fault it at all, everything had been thought of. As Hazel did not have another booking for our day of depature she even allowed us to use the underground secure car parking bay for free until after returning from the football match which was much appreciated! We had a lovely weekend, I recommend the St James Park stadium tour and having a walk through Newcastle City Centre, lots to see. However we found being in such lovely surroundings we ended up having a chilled night in! There was so much more we did not see as we were only there for a short weekend. Many thanks to Hazel for her great hospitality :) |
Guestbook for Bridges View
" The apartment was perfectly located, a pleasant short walk across the river from the train station and with the attractions and bars/restaurants of the quayside and city centre all within easy walking distance.
We hired a car to travel up the stunning Northumbrian coastline to Holy Island as well as visiting Hadrian's Wall, Beamish Museum and the Angel of the North which are all highly recommended. The apartment was an excellent base for doing this having secure parking and fast easy access to the main roads without needing to travel through the city centre.
The apartment itself was modern, bright and far more spacious than a hotel room with a well equipped kitchen allowing us to prepare lunches for our daytrips and a good strong shower for when we returned. The kitchen was well stocked with tea, coffee, sugar and condiments but Tesco was only a short walk away for anything else we needed.
We'll definitley try to stay here again next time we're up in the area."
R. Alonso, London
"This apartment is the most perfect place to stay, if you're on a busniess trip or holiday. I was able to cook there, work there (with my internet dongle) and rest there. The little balcony is a perfect size and I most appreciated the new addition of a big TV, as Wimbledon had just started when I stayed. Thanks Hazel, I will definitely be returning, if it's available!" - C. Jarvis, Cheshire
" The flat was immaculate, well-equipped and in a good, safe location, only a 10 minute walk to nice pubs, restaurants etc. It was great having the private under cover parking bay. Hope to return soon." - G. Boyle, Glasgow.
"This proved the perfect location with excellent facilities and most importantly the right ambiance for a great romantic weekend break!" - W. Bell, Kendal
"The flat is perfect for a weekend away in Newcastle especially as it is so close to good transport links and feels very safe and secure. We had everything we needed and enjoyed our stay very much." - J. Taylor, London
"The apartment was brilliant - much better than expected, great location and great facilities." - C & A Bowery, Burnley.
