Shepherds Hut is situated in the grounds of Hagg Hill Farm located in stunning Derwent Valley and is ideal for families or couples looking for a more stylish camping holiday. This cosy hut has a log burning stove ensuring you stay warm and cosy whatever the weather. There is a double bed and two bunk beds (which can also be converted to a sofa should you wish). There is a balcony with a table and chairs outside the hut which is perfect for relaxing with a glass of wine at the end of the day. There is also a BBQ and picnic table for you to use during your stay.

There is lots of room for children and your dog to play outside the hut and wildlife lovers will not be disappointed, there are a pair of red kites that nest in a nearby tree in Hagg Hill's grounds, so the kites are often seen throughout the day soaring overhead. Deer are frequent visitors to this area too and can be spotted from the hut at all times of day. Those with an interest in fly fishing can enjoy salmon and trout fishing in the River Derwent (a permit can be sourced locally – please ask on arrival for details). Horse owners are very welcome to stay at Shepherds Hut. Hagg Hill Farm has its own stables, arena and paddock which are available for guests use at a small additional fee of £12 per day).

Hagg Hill Tearooms are open every Friday – Sunday between 11am – 4 pm, and is well worth a visit during your stay. Enjoy afternoon tea and a piece of cake when you return from your walk along the derwent. The owner has a glass making studio on site and is always happy to show you round and you may even be tempted to buy a little souvenir to remind you of your stay in this beautiful area.

Shower and toilet facilities are available on site just a minute's walk from the hut.

Parking for two cars is available and one well behaved dog is welcome.

A tent can be pitched aside the hut for an additional fee of £15 per night.

Explore mile upon mile of gloriously uncrowded golden sandy beaches and stunning countryside set amongst two Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty and the rugged Northumberland National Park. Discover more castles than anywhere else in England, the birthplace of English Christianity on the Holy Island of Lindisfarne, the historic World Heritage Site of Hadrian's Wall, stunning Alnwick Garden picturesque towns and villages and much more.

There are plenty of golf courses and lots of activities and some great walking.

Newcastle Upon Tyne

The cottage is easy to get to by car or public transport. Deer Hut is served daily by a bus service from Newcastle and from MetroCentre to Winlaton Mill.

By car, Deer Hut is reached from the A1. Follow signs for the A694 heading to Rowlands Gill and Consett , the Hut is only 10 minutes drive.

Cheap flights are available from many major European cities to Newcastle Airport through operators such as Easyjet, Ryanair, Jet2 and others and the cottage is under half an hour's drive from the airport.
