Further details indoors:
Camp Hill Cottage combines old-fashioned charm with modern facilities. It is light, spacious and peaceful.
The double aspect sitting and dining rooms both seat eight people. The sitting room, which has a wooden block floor and wood-burning stove, has views over the gardens where you may see rabbits and pheasants. The dining room has an original quarry tile floor and looks out over the garden to the rear of the cottage.
The fully-equipped kitchen is modern with gas hob and electric oven and plenty of cupboard space. We supply all the basics (salt, pepper, cooking oil etc) and just ask that you replace like with like if anything runs out.
Two bedrooms have queen size doubles and one is a twin. They all have wardrobe and chest of drawers as well as views over the gardens.
There is a shared bathroom which has a washbasin and bath with shower over, and a separate WC. A further toilet is located downstairs.
Further details outdoors:
Camp Hill Cottage is situated in the grounds of Camp Hill which extend to about 45 acres. The main house was built in 1827 for Sarah Wedgwood, daughter of Josiah Wedgwood who founded the famous pottery company. Charles Darwin, who was Sarah's nephew and married his cousin Emma Wedgwood, was a regular visitor. We offer a tour of the house for those who are interested.
The gardens were originally landscaped by the previous owners between 1938 and 1983 and contain arguably the finest display of rhododendrons in the country. There are many paths and clearings to explore and it is a great place for children.
Although less than 2 miles from the village of Baldwins Gate you could be in the middle of nowhere. Everything you see is a part of Camp Hill and almost the only thing you can hear is the birds. These include woodpeckers, owls, rooks, house martins, tits, wrens and many more. At dusk there is a great display as they settle down to roost.
If you are feeling stressed or just want to get away from it all, Camp Hill is a fantastic place to unwind, relax and rediscover a sense of peace and wellbeing.

The Heart of England / Peak District / Staffordshire region

North Staffordshire is something of a hidden gem with both fabulous countryside and places of interest to visit.
Stoke-on-Trent with its Potteries is at the heart of the region, including a number of pottery museums and associated retail outlets. In addition there are several theatres, cinemas, a water park, dry ski slope, and shopping centres.
The Peak District and historic spa town of Buxton are less than an hour away by car. Bakewell, Chatsworth House and Alton Towers are only a little further. In the other direction there is Shrewsbury and mid Wales or Chester and the North Wales coast..
The Newcastle-under-Lyme / Baldwins Gate area
Close to the cottage is the conservation area of Maer where Josiah Wedgwood lived and Charles & Emma Darwin were married.
Bridgemere Garden World is about 7 miles away and the Dorothy Clive Gardens are within 3 miles.
Slightly further afield is the Trentham Estate with its formal gardens (including barefoot walk), restaurants, shopping village, boat trips and monkey forest. The recently opened Potters Wheel, which has 42 eight-seat capsules, offers spectacular views of the surrounding area.
Keele golf course is within 10 mintues drive and there are various opportunities for walking, cycling, horse riding, fishing and paint balling.
In the nearby village of Baldwins Gate is a butcher and general store which sells excellent local meat and other produce.
There are several pubs in the area, most of which also serve food, often using locally sourced ingredients.

With 4 adults and 2 children, we spent Christmas 2011 in this house and found it perfect for our needs. The property is well equipped and very comfortable. The hosts are on site and could not have been more helpful. We had other family members over for Christmas dinner and they were only too happy to help out with extra seating and plates etc. Great location - close to major centres, but still very peaceful on 40+ acres. I would recommend this property and will be returning on our next visit to the UK. |

Cottage has everything you need, very comfortable. Make sure you have a walk through the forest, we were there in winter but the views were still magnificent. Owner Katharine and Martin were very welcoming. |

We went with little kids plus teenager - Camp Hill itself amused us well with the rambling grounds and we were close to fun places such as Monkey Forest. Good value. |
