Newcastle, Northern Ireland

"Where the mountains of Mourne sweep down to the sea" that's where Newcastle is situated and this 3* NITB approved lovely home is located in a small development with easy access to the town, the beach and the mountains. It is tastefully furnished with a welcoming open fire in the lounge, fully equipped fitted kitchen and a balcony on the first floor, ideal for those fine summer evenings. The house is just a 'putt' away from two excellent golf courses. There is much to do and see around this area including horse riding, hill walking, swimming, fishing or visit the butterfly house or the nature reserve. With easy access to Belfast it is an ideal base for touring Northern Ireland.

Newcastle, the gateway to the Kingdom of Mourne, has a proud and colourful history stretching back over 400 years. Immortalised in the words of the Percy French song, "Where the Mountains of Mourne Sweep Down to the Sea" it has grown during the past four centuries from being an insignificant fishing village to its position today as the premier tourist resort in Northern Ireland. The key factor in Newcastle's popularity has always been its unique location. Bordered on one side by the calm waters of Dundrum Bay and on the other side by the sweeping panorama of the Mourn Mountains. Newcastle is home to one of the most highly-rated and challenging golf courses in the world. Royal County Down has regularly featured among the Top Ten courses in the world selected by professional golfers and golf writers, and it remains one of the town's biggest attractions. First laid out as a 9 hole course by Tom Morris of the famous St. Andrews course in August 1880, it was expanded to accommodate 18 holes a decade later. The neighbouring Mourne Golf Club was opened in 1909, and in the years before the Second World War' the course regularly hosted The Irish Open Amateur, The Irish Open and the British Ladies' Open Championships.

"Great location but really tired."

Shower not working properly from day I,Television working intermittently.not enough towels could be such a wonderful place to stay if it was given a little TLC.On the positive side .The housekeeper w… More

Glad to hear that you enjoyed your holiday despite a few glitches. I apologise for the shower , an unforeseen problem which is too big to fix while the house is occupied. You are quite right about the location - it is excellent, just minutes from the beach, main street & golf course. We are closing for winter this year and are planning a complete refurb of the property. Do come and stay with us again and see the difference.
Thank you for your comments.
