The County Down region

The Newry and Mourne region

Royal County Down is one of the oldest and most renowned golf clubs in Ireland with traditions dating back for more than one hundred years. In 2007 the Walker Cup matches were held here. Situated in Newcastle, where in the immortal words of Percy French, 'The Mountains of Mourne sweep down to the sea', Royal County Down is not only a fine test of golf but has accompanying scenery that is spellbinding

A short drive away will take you to the town of Castlewellan where you have access to any number of outdoor activities, golf, fishing, mountain climbing, canoeing, abseiling, sailing, mountain biking, tennis etc The Castle with lake and gardens are beautiful all year round .

Newcastle has a heated outdoor swimming pool during the summer months and lots of family activities during the holiday season

There are some great hill walks, loads of lovely sandy beaches, good music and culture in the area. Try to take a two week break as a week is never enough.
