Key Info
  • Not suitable for children
  • Car not necessary
  • Some pets are welcome - please contact the owner

The exotic borderland between downtown Manhattan and the rest of the island, 14th street cuts a swath across the island, packed with sellers of various wares like a dense bazaar. But there’s luxury to be had here too - the apartments are gorgeous and the location is prime, so some have spent lifetimes on waiting lists to buy here. Our hostess was among the Brahmins that regard, and her gorgeous apartment is decorated in a style fitting for a maharaja. Subway placement doesn't get much better than this, and exploring the city is a breeze, though you won’t have to go far to find the best parts of it

New York City

New York, DelhiThe exotic borderland between downtown Manhattan and the rest of the island, 14th street cuts a swath across the island, packed with sellers of various wares like a dense bazaar. But there's luxury to be had here too - the apartments are gorgeous and the location is prime, so some have spent lifetimes on waiting lists to buy here. Our hostess was among the Brahmins that regard, and her gorgeous apartment is decorated in a style fitting for a maharaja. Subway placement doesn't get much better than this, and exploring the city is a breeze, though you won't have to go far to find the best parts of it.Goddess of interiorsOur host is an entrepreneur, so accomplished that you'd think she has more than two arms. Her appreciation for design and fine interiors is evident, as she's furnished and styled her home exquisitely.Curry favourThe door opens on the living room where bulbous hanging lamps immediately set the mood of a sub-continental palace. A vivid blue, reminiscent of Shiva, is the predominant colour in this main space, with delightful highlights in Indian gold and magenta. The rustic dining room table, cosy on its Oriental rug, is perfect for sharing a meal, passing the naan to soak up something spicy and sweet.Yet there are homages to the Western lifestyle. The kitchen is bright and modern, though the lounge space across the columned room offers a return to Bollywood with its pink rug, oversize lanterns and turbaned portraits. Just off the living room you'll find the bedrooms whose mattresses are extra thick - a far cry from a bed of nails. Curl up after a long day and wake up feeling reborn. The Spicy CityThe centrality of your location can't be emphasized and a mandala of food options encircle this not-so-humble abode. To the north, there's Limelight, the former church turned eatery, and Mario Battali's Eataly; to the south, Washington Square Park and the restaurants that encircle it. Head west and you'll find the Meatpacking District and the High Line, the world's only elevated park. If you're feeling low-key there are plenty of great burger joints on the Lower East Side.
