This is a 700 sq. ft. 1 bedroom/1 bathroom apartment on the ground floor of a renovated brownstone in the Central Harlem area of Manhattan/NYC. The apartment has a private entrance, full kitchen and access to the yard with a BBQ.
There is a clothes washer and dryer as well as dishwasher. The bed is queen size and has a pillow top mattress. Also available is a portable crib. The kitchen includes a drip coffee maker with a grinder, blender, toaster and all dishware, utensils and cookware. Towels and linens are also provided.
The apartment is in the heart of Harlem close to many transportation choices: the 2 and 3 subways are two blocks away; the 4, 5, 6 and A, B, C, D subways are all within three to six blocks; and many buses such as the M1, M7, M60 run near our apartment.
There are some great cafes, restaurants and bars close by such as Sylvia's (around the corner), Red Rooster, Ginny's, Corner Social and Lenox Coffee (two-three blocks away). We also have our favorite spots around NYC that we are happy to share with you if you are looking for suggestions.
For immediate sightseeing, the Harlem area offers many interesting walks. Close by on 130th Street is Astor Row which is a great way to see a bit of New York history. The area also has many churches that welcome tourists to attend a service and hear gospel music.
There are also many museums such as the Studio Museum of Harlem, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Guggenheim and the American Museum of Natural History that are very easy to get to either by walking, taking a bus or subway. And with just a quick subway ride, you can get to many different great areas and neighborhoods in NYC -- Times Square is a 20 minute ride on the 2,3!
If it's a nice day, Central Park is also an a great destination and an easy walk, bus or subway ride away from the apartment.
We are a couple of native New Yorkers and are happy to discuss what places to visit, give you tips on how to get around and share our favorite things to do in NYC.
We hope our apartment will be a nice private escape and home away from home for you while you are here!

The New York region
Harlem is a large neighborhood within the northern section of the New York City borough of Manhattan. Since the 1920s, Harlem has been known as a major African-American residential, cultural and business center. Originally a Dutch village, formally organized in 1658, it is named after the city of Haarlem in the Netherlands. Harlem was annexed to New York City in 1873.
Today Harlem is a cultural center of Jazz and a vibrant resurgence of restaurants, cafes and shops. It's a great location for transportation, quick and easy to get around.
