The New York region
The West Village is everything west of Sixth Avenue, from Houston to 14th street. Essentially, the West Village is the original Greenwich Village.
Architecturally, the West Village has been preserved pretty well, which is a plus if you like the character of old buildings.
Known for it's character and characters :), the West Village has an eclectic mix of people, restaurants, boutiques and nightclubs. Washington Square Park maintains a carnival like atmosphere year round as street entertainers take over the center fountain to amuse the dog walkers, skateboarders, musicians and chess players who make full use of the park.
Although much of the fabled Beatnik-era ambiance is gone, you'll find coffeehouses like Caffe Reggio and Cafe Figaro which inspired writers such as Jack Kerouac and William Burroughs. Not at all like Starbucks.....
Plenty of curious stores to explore...try famous Bleecker Street for some, also is famous for its nightlife and folk clubs which featured such musicians as Bob Dylan.
There is no shortage of Restaurants....on every corner is a unique choice for your next culinary experience.
Lots of subways come through W Village, so getting to any other neighborhood is pain free. There is a reason this is such a sought out neighborhood....come see for yourselves!
