CITY CENTRE, SPACIOUS, FAMILY HOUSE

Our three storey, unpretentious, townhouse is elegant and furnished mostly with antique furniture and some nice art pieces. We are very nicely situated on a corner facing a church, and quite close to the centre. It works well for parties of 6 to 18 guests; 25 if one public room is used as a bedroom. We have only recently joined the site, hence few reviews.

The house is normally set up with seven double bedrooms, but bed arrangements are flexible by arrangement as we have additional single beds and bunks. There is a bathroom on each floor, a lovely living room with a grand piano, a large dining room, a front and a back patio garden. The 1860 house is homely and full of character. It is close to shops and buses, and many tourist sites are within walking distance.

It is an excellent base for visiting Edinburgh and Scotland, as it is approximately 15 minutes walk from the bus station, train station and Scottish tour bus departure points. Most of the galleries and museums as well as the Royal Botanical Gardens are within walking distance.

The Edinburgh region

One of the most popular European capital cities and an excellent starting point for exploring and visiting Scotland. The city has many galleries, museums and parks. The Scottish Enlightenment lastinl some 40 years towards the end of the 18th century is very well documented in history and many of the buildings involved still stand. It is a beautiful, friendly country on the northern edge of Europe, probably heading for independence several hundred years after losing its parliament and it's king becoming king of the United Kingdom.

There are festivals and Scottish Highland Games, with long, light evenings throughout the summer. Music, history, golf, whisky, fresh air and clean water are some of the things Scotland has to offer. Robert Burns was our great poet of the people who is well remembered in many towns, villages, books and music.

New Town

Edinburgh is near the sea and built on seven hills. It is possible to get a good feel for Edinburgh in a day or two. It is not all flat which gives increased character and makes it easier to work out locations.

Do not forget to leave some time for travelling around Scotland and always double the time you think a journey should take. Each region has its own character.
