The Surrey region

Although situated in what is considered to be a suburb of London, the studio is actually in the county of Surrey.

Surrey is situated in the south east of England with London to the north, Kent to the east, Sussex to the south and Hampshire and Berkshire to the east. Whilst Surrey is a relatively small county it still retains much unspoilt countryside and a true rural feel in many areas. With narrow lanes and country pubs full of character, it is hard to imagine that one is so close to England’s capital city. Historic villages nestle perfectly alongside vibrant towns, surrounded by stunning landscapes. Whether you're visiting Surrey for business or leisure, it offers a great diversity of things to do.

The south east of England has long been important to English Kings and before the Norman invasion Anglo-Saxon Kings were crowned at Kingston-upon-Thames.

A little further down the river King John signed the Magna Carta at Runnymede (a memorial is now erected there) and at Hampton Court Palace, Henry VIII used the Thames to his full advantage.

There are many historic attractions to visit including Loseley Park (Guildford), Hampton Court Palace, Clandon Park (Guildford), Painshill Park (Cobham), Claremont Garden (Esher), Polesden Lacy (Dorking) and many others.

New Malden

Those looking for something different to do in South West London will be spoilt for choice with the large range of unusual places to visit.

Wimbledon is very close by which is best known for the famous Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Championships.

There are tours available and a Tennis Museum where you can explore the game's evolution from a garden party pastime to a multimillion dollar professional sport played world-wide. With exciting interactives and films, easy-to-use touch screens, and audio guides in 10 languages, people of all ages can experience the artistry and athleticism that is modern tennis.

For those in the know, Wimbledon is also where you'll find one of London's most perfect villages. With fantastic shops, bars and restaurants creating a great atmosphere, this leafy area is lovely to visit with plenty of green open spaces.

There are stables in the village and Richmond Park for anyone wishing to try horse riding.

Richmond Park is very nearby and is the largest Royal Park in London covering an area of 2,500 acres. From its heights there is an uninterrupted view of St Paul's Cathedral, 12 miles away.

Originally a deer-hunting park for King Henry VIII, it still has 300 Red Deer and 350 fallow deer which roam wild. Designated as a National Nature Reserve and Special Area of Conservation, it is a top UK site for ancient trees, particularly oaks, which have great historic and wildlife importancee.

The park provides a great combination of wooded areas and open spaces for recreation.

It offers an interesting and varied cycling experience, from the flattest roads to hilly climbs - cycle hire is available. Others may wish to head toward the two 18-hole golf courses or 16-bay driving range.

For enthusiasts, there is also a great choice of other golf courses in the area and a good driving range with crazy golf close to the studio.

On a sunny day there’s nothing better than splashing about on the river and South West London just happens to have two scenic and picturesque water ways. Stay on familiar ground beside the River Thames or head to the River Wandle and enjoy a ride on one of the hire boats available or sit back and relax with a picnic.

If you’re keen to discover the history of this interesting area pay a visit to the close-by Wandle Industrial Museum in Merton and see how the river has helped the area to prosper through the ages. Merton Abbey Mills is also an interesting place to visit with its Arts and Crafts Market. It has a working water mill which was used for textile printing in the early nineteenth century and was acquired by the Pre-Raphaelite artist and textile designer William Morris.

Liberty & Co. was also involved with the site since the 19th century, as their popular ranges of fabrics for dress and furniture were nearly all made there.

Other local Museums include Wimbledon Museum of Local History, Kingston Museum, and Wandsworth Museum.

South West London is rich in former palaces and historic houses, ranging from little hidden away gems such as Whitehall and Little Holland House to grand and lavish buildings like Hampton Court Palace and Ham House.

There are also some beautiful gardens to explore, including RHS Gardens Wisley.
