About this location
The Northumberland region
Northumberland is one of England's least populated counties, sometimes referred to as England's best kept secret and the peace and quiet is just one of the many reasons that keep visitors coming back. Northumberland National Park has some of the most dramatic scenery in England which you will often have all to yourself. Northumberland also has some amazing historic buildings; from Hadrian's wall in the south to the Elizabethan walled town of Berwick on Tweed in the north and in between, some spectacular castles. Northumberland is also renowned for its wildlife and birds and contrary to popular belief, the weather in the winter can often offer bright blue skies and sunny crisp days giving keen photographers some of the best opportunities for a stunning shot. It also boasts one of Europe's best dark sky areas, ideal for star gazers.
The cottage is in the rural setting of New Haggerston which is a small farming hamlet 4 miles from Holy Island, 6 miles south of Berwick on Tweed. It is close to the dramatic Northumberland and Berwickshire coastlines and within easy reach of the Cheviot Hills. It has quiet roads to explore by walking or cycling and abundant wildlife from the doorstep. Visitors most often comment on the peace and quiet of the location and yet it is within easy reach for sightseeing and activities such as golf, horse riding, fishing.
