The cliff top at Barton on sea is a beautiful location with splendid panoramic views over the whole of Christchurch bay. From Hurst castle and Isle of Wight and the needles to the east and as far as Swanage and Studland to the west.
The beach offers not only bathing but is also very popular with those who like to pursue such activities as windsurfing and canoeing. Paragliding is becoming increasingly popular on the cliff top that has ideal conditions for the sport. With its cliff top and coastal walks this is an ideal location for those who love to enjoy the great outdoors.
New Forest / Barton on Sea area
The New Forest was formed over 900 years ago as a royal hunting ground for deer. Today however it is Britain’s newest national park and everyone can enjoy the beauty of its forests and open spaces. The area offers endless opportunities for interesting walks and safe traffic free cycle rides.
The village of Milford on sea and its neighbour Keyhaven are 4 miles to the east. Milford has a wide range of village shops, restaurants and pubs. From Keyhaven a ferry may be taken to Hurst castle. Built by Henry VIII to defend the Solent it was once the prison of Charles I. Visitors can explore its fortifications and look out over the Solent to the Isle of Wight.
Lymington 7miles to the east has a very busy Saturday market offering local foods, crafts and antiques. The high street has a wide range of shops restaurants and coffee shops. Exploring beyond the high street will lead you down a cobbled street to the town quay where you may watch luxury yachts and other boats come and go. From here you may take a boat trip down the Lymington River or even over to the Isle of Wight.
