The Lantern Building
About the home
The Apartment is situated at the furthest point out into the sea along the Solent coastline and therefore offer panoramic views of passing small & large vessels, cruise liners, QM2, QEII, Arcada, Oceana, and Red Funnel Ferries through their large full length L-shaped lounge windows/doors and unique porthole windows. Views are over Hythe Village, Hythe Marina, Southampton & Docks, & as far as the eye can see down towards to IOWight. The vessels are so close you feel that you could reach out and touch them. Just before leaving the cruise liners often have firework displays and you will be able to see many people on deck waving. On the large semi circular balcony you can see and hear the sea beneath you. The apartment is very quiet, other than the seagulls and the sea.

Booked 22 July to 19 August 2011. Spent four weeks in pure enjoyment. My adult daughter joined me for the middle two weeks and found it heavenly as well. We found the appearance of the apartment to be modern and welcoming. All the instructions were helpful and useful. We found the beds to be too hard and the guest bathroom shower needs to be addressed so that you don't have to crouch in the bathtub to have a shower. I stood up and sprayed the entire room! I am a shower person not a bath person and I gave the master bedroom and ensuite to my daughter, so I had no other choice. The only other slight criticism would be having to close the heavy door to the kitchen everytime you needed to get into the fridge. Not a very clever design! Dealing with the garbage was a breeze. We were lucky to employ Sam, the cleaner, weekly whilst enjoying #19 and who added to our pleasure enormously! We had family over for a dinner party and Sam and her Dad were so helpful in finding us another table and chairs so that we could seat everyone. Hythe was a delightful small town, which seemed to go to sleep at 5.00 pm every night! There was a great transportation link to West Quay in Southampton, by 'historic' train to the end of the pier, by ferry to Town Quay, Southampton and then free bus ride to West Quay - a most picturesque and enjoyable journey each time it was taken. There was a Waitrose in Hythe for all your needs, to be supplemented by the open market on Tuesdays in the car park. I found a good bakery for fresh bread and rolls and a wonderful green-grocer for veggies. We ate out at Seashells (good pub food) and La Vista (fresh Italian) on the Marina. Both were excellent. I enjoyed walking over to the Marina before eating lunch or dinner at La Vista and I really enjoyed the fresh seafood there. I must have eaten king scallops three times and the charcoal grilled squid was absolutely the best. |
