The New Forest / North Gorley area
The village of North Gorley, Hampshire, is within the New Forest National Park and is just over 2 miles from the historical market town of Fordingbridge. It is home to the newly refurbished Royal Oak pub, providing home cooked food and local ales and the Gorley Tea Rooms, open from Easter until October during the daytime (Mon-Sat). On Thursday, Friday & Saturday evenings and Sunday lunchtime the tea rooms becomes home to the Little Mere Restaurant which offers fine dining and is open all year round. The village is often frequented by groups of New Forest Ponies, cattle and donkeys that inhabit the Forest.
The New Forest itself has lots to explore and is easily accessible to walkers and bikers. It has an abundance of charming pubs and provides a great backdrop for those who love the outdoors. There are a couple of horse riding schools, as well as places to hire bikes to explore the Forest located nearby.
There is plenty to explore locally - on Gorley Common at the top of Buddle Hill it is not uncommon to see deer grazing. Within a mile is the New Forest Water Park and 4 miles away is the Ringwood Town and Country Experience, a museum which is home to vintage cars and motorcycles, as well as exhibitions and a full size railway station. See what life was like in Roman Briton by visiting Rockbourne Roman Villa in the village of Rockbourne which is 5½ miles away.
A little further afield, but within the New Forest are the towns of Burley (10 miles) and the "Capital" of the Forest since the time of William the Conqueror, Lyndhurst (14 miles). Beaulieu, with it's famous Motor Museum, Palace House and Historic Abbey, is just over 20 miles away and 2½ miles to the south of Beaulieu is Buckler's Hard, a Maritime Museum on the banks of the Beaulieu river which was the birthplace to many of Admiral Nelson's Naval fleet.
