Southampton is only 30mins in the car or on the train, and has an excellent range of shops (West Quay Shopping Centre), night life, walks of the city walls and the museum on the site of the launch of the Mayflower, the ship of the Pilgrim Fathers of America, and of course theatre and cinemas.
Bournemouth, a similar distance in the other direction, has some first class beaches and a bar and clubbing scene reputed to be second only to central London, as does Weymouth, a few miles further with the water sports centre for the forthcoming Olympics.
London, our capital city, is less than two hours away on the train, and an the Off-Peak day return is often bundled in with entry deals for such as attractions as the Tower of London and Madame Tussauds that South West Trains offers from our local station.

The unique nature of this area is that the coast and forest are both on the doorstep combined with the High Street of the stylish town of Lymington only a couple of minutes away with its bustling shops and harbour. Lymington is a beautiful town with cobbled streets leading down to the Quay, three marinas, beautiful nature reserve and a great range of coffee shops, restaurants and bars. It is ideal for both ramblers and for those of us who enjoy restaurants and shopping!
The New Forest is an area of outstanding beauty with open countryside freely inhabited by ponies, cattle and donkeys. As a national park, the whole area is open for visitors to enjoy. Within the park are the quaint towns of Lyndhurst, Brockenhurst, Beaulieu and Burley all worth a visit. There are numerous attractions in the forest that offer all types of activities for most types of taste. The obvious attraction that most people will come to the forest for is the outstanding natural beauty and wildlife, however there is so much more to see and do in the forest that you may have to stay a little longer than you originally thought!
For the adventurous the adventure parks are always an exciting option, including Paultons Park, Moors Valley and Beaulieu Motor Museum. Also there are public indoor (Recreation Centre) and outoor (sea water) swimming pools within walking distance.
