For entertaining days out, relaxing short breaks and fun family holidays, be sure to discover Hampshire.
The historical Dockyard at Portsmouth is within easy reach for a day trip, visit the submarine museum & catch a ferry to see Nelson's Victory.
Walking & cycling in the peace of the New Forest is ideal for families - ponies, cattle & donkeys roam free along hundreds of miles f paths criss-crossing the beautiful scenery and heritage of Royal Forest National Park.
Southampton is only 30mins in the car or on the train, and has an excellent range of shops (West Quay Shopping Centre), night life, walks of the city walls and the museum on the site of the launch of the Mayflower, the ship of the Pilgrim Fathers of America, and of course theatre and cinemas.
Bournemouth, a similar distance in the other direction, has some first class beaches and a bar and clubbing scene reputed to be second only to central London, as does Weymouth, a few miles further with the water sports centre for the forthcoming Olympics.
London, our capital city, is less than two hours away on the train, and an the Off-Peak day return is often bundled in with entry deals for such as attractions as the Tower of London and Madame Tussauds that South West Trains offers from our local station.
The unique nature of this area is that the coast and forest are both on the doorstep combined with the High Street of the stylish town of Lymington only a couple of minutes away with its bustling shops and harbour. Lymington is a beautiful town with cobbled streets leading down to the Quay, three marinas, beautiful nature reserve and a great range of coffee shops, restaurants and bars. It is situated central to the New Forest National Park with it abundance of wildlife. There is also a frequent ferry service from the Lymington Ferry Terminal to Yarmouth on the Isle of Wight (20mins crossing) as well as exceptional coastal walks overlooking the Island and Solent area.
It is ideal for both ramblers and for those of us who enjoy restaurants and shopping!
The New Forest is an area of outstanding beauty with open countryside freely inhabited by ponies, cattle and donkeys. As a national park, the whole area is open for visitors to enjoy. Within the park are the quaint towns of Lyndhurst, Brockenhurst, Beaulieu and Burley all worth a visit. There are numerous attractions in the forest that offer all types of activities for most types of taste. The obvious attraction that most people will come to the forest for is the outstanding natural beauty and wildlife, however there is so much more to see and do in the forest that you may have to stay a little longer than you originally thought!
For the adventurous the adventure parks are always an exciting option, including Paultons Park, Moors Valley and Beaulieu Motor Museum. Also there are public indoor (Recreation Centre) and outoor (sea water) swimming pools within walking distance.
Those wanting to discover some of the heritage in the forest may want to check out some of the numerous museums, galleries and incredible gardens in the forest.
If you just want to relax then why not stroll around one many castles or manors in the area followed by a relaxing amble along the many miles of beach.
If you have a bit more energy you could always hire a bike and really discover the forest in the best way possible. With many miles of car free cycle tracks you can get up close to the real forest and to the wildlife, but not too close, they might bite!

"Great location and lovely house"
I was a little worried about staying at Cross Tree Lodge as there weren't that many/recent reviews for it. When we got there though the place was very clean and suited our needs perfectly, 2 good sized doubles and a bunk bed room. The kitchen was well stocked and had everything we needed. The garden is also really big so if staying in the summer it would be great for BBQ's. Location wise it is a 15 min walk to Lymington which was fine and close by there is a fish and chip shop and convenience store. The owners are very friendly and I'm sure would help you with anything that you might need for your stay. The only niggles were the chest of drawers in one of the rooms wouldn't stay closed and the wi-fi that is mentioned in the guest guide was impossible to connect to, but we were on holiday so not really a problem.
Just finished a major upgrade on the wifi, and all working well!
