The Costa del Sol/Malaga region
The Costa del Sol area has the best climate in Europe with over 320 days of sunshine a year. The caves of Nerja and the nearby beautiful white village of Frigiliana are not be missed.
Further afield is the spectacular Alhambra Palace at Granada. A day excursion to Rhonda is recommended. In the winter season, skiing is possible at Sierra Nevada (80 km of piste) from the beginning of December, or earlier to the end of April.
Nerja / Burriana/Chimenea area
Nerja is a wonderful contrast between a sleepy fishing village with a fantastic lively atmosphere in the evenings, ideal for families, couples and friends. The coastline is a series of coves intermingled with rocky cliffs. Its most dramatic spot is the Balcón de Europa, a cliff that juts out to sea and is enclosed by two sheltered beaches. This palm-shaded promenade is a favourite spot of many visitors with a beautiful view of the Mediterranean.
Burriana Beach, Nerja's main beach offers a host of activities for those who want to relax on a sun bed to the more adventurous who fancy Deep Sea Diving. You will find a large variety of restaurants, bars, and small shops along the beach-side promenades. A coastal path from the Burriana Beach, passes small beaches and coves and leads to the Balcon de Europa in Nerjas centre.
How to get there
Fly to Malaga - Easyjet is a good option. Taxis are available at €70 to €80 Helle Hollis is a good car hire company. There is also a bus to Malaga bus station, with a connection to Nerja. If driving, directions from Malaga airport are as follows:
Follow Malaga N340 until sign changes to Motril N340 or Almeria N340 (Both Motril and Almeria are further down the coast than Nerja. Sometimes the signs say Motril, and sometimes Almeria). This is the Autovia del Mediterraneo. Turn off at the Nera/Frigiliana sign. Follow the Nerja Costa signs (N340a) until the roundabout which gives the option of Nerja este (east) or Nerja oeste (west). Turn left fro Nerja Este Straight over the next 3 roundabouts Then take the first slip road on your right after passing Supersol supermarket which is on your left, signposted for Hotel Arcos. Continue on this slip road, which runs parallel to the main road, then: Turn right at the yellow post box. This is Avenida Chimenea. Do not turn right at the sign for Chumbera. The apartment is three quarters of the way down the road, on the right hand side and is signed Chumbera IV.

Because of the steep hill to the beach, a car is advisible for the elderly or infirm. However there is a bus service (bus stop 2 minutes walk away) to the beach and town centre (15 to 20 minutes walk).
