The Costa del Sol/Malaga region
The Costa del Sol area has the best climate in Europe with over 320 days of sunshine a year. Nerja is a wonderful contrast between a sleepy fishing village with a fantastic lively atmosphere in the evenings ideal for families, couples and friends. The coastline has small bay and cover intermingled with Rocky cliffs.
Nerja, a seaside town, is located 53 kilometres east of Málaga on the Costa del Sol and can be reached in about 40 minutes by car from Málaga airport or about an hour and a half by bus. The town is built on a cliff above numerous sandy coves and lies at the foot of the impressive Sierra de Almijara mountain range. Protected by the mountains, the temperate climate makes it an ideal place to visit at any time of the year. In Moorish times, the town was known as Naricha – meaning Rich or Abundant in Water. In 2006, the resident population of Nerja reached the almost magical figure of 20,000, an important milestone for Spanish municipalities as it has great bearing on funding for social and other services. In the summer, being a tourist resort, the population quadruples. However, the town has managed to maintain an almost ‘village’ atmosphere and has not succumbed to the concrete high-rise scenario. By the way, if you are wondering how NERJA is pronounced, it is basically: Ner (sounds almost like ‘nair’) j (a gutteral ‘ch’ sound akin to the Scottish (not English) pronunciation of ch in ‘loch’) and a (as in ‘cat’). And don’t forget to roll your ‘r’s…..
Nerja / Burriana Beach area
Burriana beach, or Playa Burriana, is a large, sandy beach situated at the eastern end of town and is Nerja’s premier bathing location. Playa Burriana is a regular recipient of the prestigious ‘Blue Flag’ of excellence, awarded by the European Union, and the ‘Q for Quality’ flag issued by the Spanish authorities. It is a modern area, almost a separate village or resort in many ways, with just about every conceivable facility available to the thousands of visitors, both Spanish and foreign, who flock here every year. Access to the beach is either via a long, steep hill leading down from Avenida de Pescia or from a steep, winding hill down from the Parador de Nerja. Either way, the route is steep and a car or taxi is a good option. Walking down the hill is no problem, it’s the return journey, particularly at the end of the day. burrianavolley2The beach itself is about 800 metres long and, on average, about 40 metres wide. The sea has a moderate swell and does get fairly deep relatively quickly. On the beach you will find pedalos for rental, areas of sunbeds for hire, beach showers, play areas for children and beach volleyball nets. At the back of the beach is the promenade, stretching from one end to the other, lined on the one side by palm trees and on the other by the Spanish restaurants and Merenderos.
The Costa del Sol area the best climate in Europe Clima. Nerja is located at the feet of the sierra de Almijara which protects the town. Nerja retains mild temperatures in both winter and summer. East of Malaga is quiet compared with many of the destinations towards Marbella, it has stunning mountains and countryside to enjoy. Nerja is a wonderful contrast between a sleepy fishing village with a fantastic lively atmosphere in the evenings ideal for families, couples and friends. It´s most special spot is the "Balcon de Europa" a cliff that juts out to the sea and is enclosed by tow sheltred beaches. This palm shaded promenade is a fovourite spot of many visitors with a beautyfill view of the Mediterranean. The walkway was built in 1895 in honour of a visiti from the spanisch King "Alfonso" XIII , the phrase " Balcon de Europa" is said to be conined by the king himself during the visit. This place is a magnet for visitors and a great place to sit and watch the world go by.From here you can take a ride in a horse-drawn carriage or alternative catch the mini train witch follows the same route. Nerja´s biggest beach is Burriana Beach to the east, here is the restaurante Ayo, where Ayo himself cooks an enormous paella over an open fire . The Caves: Discovered in 1959,the Nerja caves are now one of the biggest tourist attractions in Spain, visited by hundresd of thousands each year. One of the most beautiful cave complexes in Europe, look especially for the 32mhigh column in Cataclysm Hall wich was formed by an estimated 1,ooo billion drops of water. Golf: Nerja does not have its own golf course but it has plenty of golfers. The Golf International Nerja Society ( GINS) has some 750 membersand for information go to the 19thHole ,Avda. Castilla Perez inNerja. Next Golf course ca. 15 min by car. Fiestas: there are a lot of Fiestas, the most popular is the Easter week in March/April and in July the Flamenco and classic Festival in Nerja caves. Frigiliana: No visit to Nerja is complete without a trip to Frigiliana, some 5 kms inland. The picturesque village is steeped im history and one of the best ways to learn it is to take one of the official walking tours . Further attractions are within reasonable travelling distance such as Cordoba, Granada, where you can see the Alhambra Palace, not to be missed. Guestbook for Tarragona A
We stayed in "Tarragona A from 29/07/2007 to 05/08/2007 and found it to be a Home from Home. Everything that you could possible need is provided. Very central to everything with beautiful views of the mountains and beach. We found both Burriana & Tarragona A to be a very relaxing holiday/apartment" Anne & Pat (Ireland)
Dear Angelika. This apartment is fully equipped with everything you could possibly need. It's tastefully decorated and has a lovely terrace with wonderful views of the sea and mountains where you can have some peace on your own away from the beach if you want to. Angelika was very good to communicate with before we went and when we arrived the taxi driver was waiting for us at the airport. Isobel was at the apartment when we arrived and made us very welcome she also booked our taxi back to the airport for us. We would highly recommend this apartment for a holiday, it's home from home and in a good location for the beach as well as shops and restaurants. Thank you for a our lovely relaxing holiday, regards Linda & Andy UK
