The Andalucia region
Nearby towns of Frigiliana & Torrox offer the experience of authentic Spanish whitewashed villages. The world famous Caves are located in Maro just 3 km east of Nerja. Baviera Golf Course is within 15 mins drive & the ski resort of the Sierra Nevada, Granada is just 2 hours drive. Ski & dine on the beach on the same day! Walking is very popular in the Sierra de Almijaras.
For those in search of retail therapy, there is a good selection of shops & boutiques in Nerja & large shopping centre at Velez Malaga. Malaga city offers excellent shops & restaurants together with a great insight in to the history of the area. The Cathedral & Bull Ring are well worth a visit.
When visiting this region for the first time, it doesn't take long to understand how it has come to be one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world. The narrow strip of land sandwiched between the Mediterranean and the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountain range which has come to be known as the Costa del Sol offers a wealth of geographical, historical and cultural attractions. Activities available locally include hiking, golf, tennis, fishing, horseback riding, wildlife sightseeing trips, all manner of watersports and even skiing in the mountains.
The great Arab cities of Granada, Sevilla, Cordoba and Malaga contain some of the finest examples of Moorish architecture in Europe and are all day-trips from Nerja. A few miles inland from Nerja, Frigiliana, one of dozens of whitewashed villages that pepper the foothills of the Almijaras, is a beautiful example of a humbler form of Moorish architecture, with its steep narrow streets only passable on foot or donkey.
In more recent times, Catholicism has been a dominant cultural influence in Spain and although the church's influence has decreased over the last 50 years, during Franco's repressive regime, the people used the religious festivals as an opportunity to gather in public in large numbers and party !! These traditions are still very strong today and all the locals come out and participate in the Fiestas. Some of Nerjas most enjoyable festival include Carnival in February, Semana Santa from Maundy Thursday to Easter Sunday, San Isidro Romerio around May 15th when all the people get dressed up and walk/dance to Maro, San Juan around 25th June when bonfires are lit on the beaches, everyone gathers and enjoys a barbecue before going into the water at midnight and in October there is a 6-day fair.
Day trips include Marbella with its famous Puerto Banus marina, and also Granada with its magnificent Alhambra Palace, as well as the classical city of Seville. Golf can also be enjoyed only 15 mins. drive away at Baviera Golf close to Caleta de Velez and also at Anoreta Golf at Rincon de la Victoria. The Water world is a must for all the family at Torre del Mar.
Nerja!! The jewel of the Costa del Sol. Probably the best climate in Europe!!
Nerja is a coastal town at the foot of the Almijara mountains with a long tradition of fishing and agriculture. The fishermen still pull their nets ashore on Burriana beach and fresh produce can still be bought from the doorways of local people's houses. The weekly market (Tuesdays) attracts many traders and shoppers from all over the region and the town centre has a vibrant, friendly atmosphere with many lovely shops and tapas bars & restaurants.
While Nerja bears no resemblance to the 'high-rise' holiday developments often associated with the Costa del Sol, it is a popular destination for North European and Spanish tourists and offers all the necessary ingredients for a fantastic holiday - good road link to airport (45 minutes), a huge choice of restaurants to suit every budget, bars, cafes, nightclubs, beautiful clean beaches and of course lots of sunshine.
A car is not necessary for a holiday in Nerja as everywhere in town is easily accessible by foot and there are good local bus, taxi and coach services
Nerja is a wonderful contrast between a sleepy fishing village with a fantastic lively atmosphere in the evenings ideal for families, couples and friends. Nerja has five wonderful sandy beaches offering sunbed & parasol hire, watersports, pedaloes, tapas bars and restaurants.
The famous Cuevas de Nerja and the picturesque Frigiliana are only a short distance away. Granada is now just over an hour's drive by car and there are several typical towns and villages within easy reach either in the Alpujarras mountains or closer along the lovely Costa Tropical which is still one of the most beautiful stretches of coast in Europe.

"Great property for a great holiday!"
We just returned from Nerja and had a great time there and this property was exactly what we were looking for. The kitchen is fully equipped, so we could do our shopping in nearby supermarkets and cook our own lunch/dinner.
Directions were clear, logistics of picking up the key also great.
The property is in a residential complex with swimming pool and underground garage.
If you don't fancy going to the beach, you can relax in the pool, after you were brave enough to manouvre your car in the maze-like undergound garage. Nevertheless, great fun to park your car!

"Ticked all the boxes!"
We very much enjoyed our stay in this apartment. The apartment block is very secure, quiet and the apartment itself has everything one needs in a rented accommodation. Very close to the beach (5 min walk) but not exactly on the beach hence quiet and peaceful. Again, within walking distance to the town (10-15 min) but not in the middle of it which was exactly what we wanted. Burriana beach is beautiful and well serviced. Some good restaurants on the beach and lots of good food in Nerja town itself. Not much to add to this, we will be coming again.

"Lovely apartment very close to the beach"
I was initially worried about booking this apartment as I could not find any reviews on it. I have never written a review before but felt I should so that people are aware how lovely it is.
We are a married couple in our 30's with a two year old daughter and stayed at this apartment in April 2012. It is superbly located, just off the main road leading down to Burriana beach. It is spacious with a very good sized terrace area and is very nicely furnished. The complex itself is very secure and well maintained and this apartment comes with the added bonus of a garage space. I would definitely recommend car hire if you have little one's as you can pack up the car in the morning and head off for the day. Despite the beach being only metres down the road (be aware this is on a hill) we usually drove down with all our possessions as parking is not a problem and we had the option to drive out if we fancied lunch on the coastal road or needed to visit one of the many supermarkets.
Nerja is perfect for young families as there are parks and play areas everywhere you look. There is also a small train that drives around the town and the Donkey Sanctuary provided endless amounts of entertainment. I was told there are six beach areas in Nerja, we visited Burriana beach and Torrecilla beach and both were brilliant, although I have a soft spot for Burriana as this is the home of Ayo's and his amazing paella and there is also a parrot on the beach front that my daughter fell in love with. Frigiliana is also a lovely place to visit.
I would class this apartment as 3+ rather than 4. The reason for this and my only very small criticsim of this place would be that there could have been more in the way of kitchen & bathroom essentials provided and the towels were very tough. It almost seems ridiculous putting this as compared to the overall stay, it is trivial.
On a final note, I cannot recommend highly enough the letting agent who we booked this apartment with - C & G Inmobiliaria and in particular Ian. The whole booking process was effortless and the support given whilst we were in Nerja was great. I would definitely book with this company again should I visit the area.
