Ideal as a self-catered summer base for biking and hiking, yet equally convenient as a luxury catered ski chalet, Chalet Merri is located in a magnificent tranquil area, just 2 minutes drive (about 10 minutes' walk) from the centre of Nendaz.

The chalet provides spacious, charming surroundings for groups of up to 8 people (plus a small child or two). It is built of timber, with reinforced concrete and underfloor heating on the lower two floors. The double garage houses a table tennis table, whilst on the terrace is a large hot tub with unbeatable views extending for miles over the Rhône valley.

The chalet has laundry facilities, a fully equipped kitchen (it's used by a professional chef during the winter) and all you would expect from a luxury holiday chalet - including free WiFi, DVD player, stereo with iPod link and cable TV.

The Swiss Alps / Valais/Swiss Alps region

Nendaz is at the heart of Switzerland's Four Valleys, the country's largest ski and mountain biking region. Not only is it a fantastic place to take an active holiday, but it also gets the same amount of sunshine as the Cote D'Azur in France - as much as 300 days a year.

The Rhone valley itself is Switzerland's largest wine-producing area, so there is ample opportunity to sample some excellent local wines when here. In addition, the town of Sion is one of Switzerland's oldest settlements, and now boasts not only some fantastic architecture and ancient monuments but also a vibrant and lively night life, and a modern selection of shops and amenities.

Nendaz area

SUMMER:
Nendaz offers the visitor a great array of mountain biking tracks and terrain, as well as fantastic hiking adventures. The village is alive throughout the year, and in summer its charms come to the fore. There is a village market every Wednesday during mid-summer, where local produce can be found. For kids, there is an open air swimming pool, just 200m from Chalet Merri, while there are also a climbing tower, a beach volley ball court, a 5-a-side football pitch and several tennis courts. The village also offers a British run gym and wellness centre.

WINTER:
The village is a thriving winter ski resort, linked with the Four Valleys system where a single lift pass covers you for 89 lifts in Verbier, Veysonnaz and Thyon, as well as Nendaz. The terrain is particularly well suited to advanced skiers, as there are more off-piste opportunities here than almost anywhere else on the planet. That being said, the ski schools also cater brilliantly to the beginner. Chalet Merri is operated by Ted Bentley Chalet Holidays during the winter, who offer a five-star ski holiday experience for those who are a little more discerning about their ski and board.

How to get there

The quickest and easiest method of travel if flying to Geneva, then taking a train from there to the town of Sion, which is a 20-minute taxi ride to Nendaz. In the summer, the use of a car in teh village is recommended, in which case hiring a car at the airport is a wise idea. In the winter, the chalet is operated by Ted Bentley Chalet Holidays, and you can be collected from Sion train station for free by their staff.

If you choose to drive the whole way, Calais to Nendaz is approximately 600km, and will take between 8 and 10 hours - depending on how close you stick to speed limits. Please contact us for a PDF of simple directions for car travel.

The hot tub accommodates 6 with ease, so you can all relax in the evenings. It is partially housed within a beautiful maple-wood gazebo (imported from Canada), to prevent being overlooked by neighbours up the mountain. It provides uninterrupted views across 2 miles of open air (the spectacular Rhone valley).

Conditions

We operate a Saturday-Saturday changeover system, but in the summer we are more flexible, allowing short breaks more readily (just ask us for a price). In the winter the chalet is operated by Ted Bentley Chalet Holidays, who are more eager to maintain strict weekly changeovers.
